RE: Skoda Roomster Scout | Shed of the Week

As a few others have said, I like the Skoda's of this time before they were more fully assimilated into the VAG Borg. Roomster, Yeti, going back a bit, the Felicia Fun pickup with the pull out rear seats. It didn't get to the UK, but in Europe there was a Roomster Monte Carlo model, we did get a Black Edition that's similar but all black.
It's still the same shape, but a few blacked out semi VRS bits do make it less Werther's Original . Everything has potential.
That looks a lot better than the standard car. It's still the same shape, but a few blacked out semi VRS bits do make it less Werther's Original . Everything has potential.

Practical, reliable, comfortable. Excellent shed.
. Cheap as chips too.
Mine does a easy 60 MPG and in 40k miles has cost me nothing apart from two tyres, a few oil changes, a used fan resistor and a set of pads.
Once you get used to that Roomster sheddy goodness everything else seems a big step backwards.

Perfect family car for us. Two babies, rural living (15" rims with snow tyres) and 80k faultless miles. Only got rid because the babies grew into kids. We have a Kodiaq now.
PS its sahara sand, not beige.
The low cut rear windows are one reason I wondered about getting one - it means the view out the side from childseats will be better.PS its sahara sand, not beige.
If they are raised is the view forwards decent too?
Yes, rear seats are a little higher. The view isn’t superb, as the front of the car does feel a little cramped (Fabia after all).
A useful feature of the seats was that you could take middle chair out and push the outer seats in a bit - not much, but a useful amount.
This meant an even better out of the front, and more elbow room (or if you’re 4, easier to hit your brother, which is why we didn’t do it too often.

the wonderful sense of liberation that comes with a zero fkucks given mindset regarding status and image and damage and dirt.
This. This is the essence of shedding.
As a petrolhead, there really is something wonderfully liberating about driving a car you don't give a flying fk about.

If it’s a good car, the image doesn’t matter when it comes to shedding. Amazes me how image conscious this forum can be.
Quite. If you were driving about in it, a useful car that a lot of people regard quite highly, I'm not sure why anybody would care what other people looking on would think about them, if they even notice them.
If you've committed to shedding you're entirely free from any concerns over anybody's opinions regarding either you or your shed.
Freedom from concern is incredibly liberating and once you've got that its a backward step returning to anything more needy or precious.

A few years ago I took my 54 plate Fabia vRS (which I loved, btw) to get serviced at the MD. Bloke took me out to my loan car and presented me with ... the “dumpster”. My wife still takes the p#ss out of me ... it was all I could do to prize myself away from the wall and approach the thing with a look of absolute horror and disappointment on my face. I know, it was a Skoda MD and the loan car was never going to be great, but ffs - a dumpster? I spent the rest of the day hoping I didn’t bump into anyone I knew. Worst car I’ve ever been in. Never went back to that MD again. F@ckers.
The Black edition looked pretty good in a sort of miniature hearse kinda way:

How absolutely awful for you - you're OK now though? Nobody saw you and there's been no lasting trauma or flashbacks from driving a clearly inferior car to your own for a day I hope.

Drives a Skoda then gets upset at driving another Skoda car snobbery at it's finest!
Cuh! People, eh? We’ve all had our journey’s through car ownership I’m sure and we can probably all think of the differences within brands between the good, the bad and the downright munters. There can’t be many brands I haven’t tried at least one of - but the dumpster loan car was memorable in that it was truly tragic. 💩, just saying. I had one as a loaner from the Skoda dealer once too. The main problem with it was the tiny 3 cylinder diesel with about a 500rpm power band, but otherwise for practical purposes it would be a decent shed - particularly this one with to he better diesel engine
Lots of references to pipe and slippers, werther's originals etc. I think it is one of those cars they thought would appeal to young people as more of a lifestyle vehicle but it didn't - see also Ford Fusion etc
