RE: The best used fast Fords to buy in 2021
Discussion
Started Ford life with a basic MK4 Fiesta 1.25, bland as hell, but super cheap run around... It didn't even have power steering! Then went to a '17 MK7.5 Fiesta ST-3, such good fun, loved it. The later models were less bone shaking than the earlier ones, changed around 2015 I think. Followed that up with a '18 MK3.5 Focus ST-3, it was a diesel and even a remap didn't make it exciting enough to keep. Soon binned that off for a '19 MK8 Fiesta ST-3, loved that, such a good car in my opinion. Liked the MK8 so much that it's recently gone in favour of a new '21 Fiesta ST Edition. I might try and keep this one!
Oh and the wife drives a MK3 RS, fast Fords everywhere!

I think we can attribute that to your cluelessness and the fact you barely drove it, or you just had a dud. There are recent youtube vids where Jason Plato and Henry Catchpole drove one, and they loved it.
LOL classic PH response translated - You owned the car and know it better than 99% of the readers here, but because your opinion differs to the opinion of YouTube and the Ford Fanboy base, you are wrong!Has it ever occured to you he's probably right? Most RS Ford's are fun but not remotely worth the asking price. If you got behind the wheel of a stock Cosworth now it would be hugely disappointing.

The mk7 fiesta St is easily the pick of that bunch for me.
Though my personal preference would be a well sorted mk2 escort.
£20k for a Capri
That Capri would be my choice from what's here ... ain't it odd how diferent we all are!Though my personal preference would be a well sorted mk2 escort.

My absolute money-no-object choice would have been an RS200
Have never owned any Ford, let alone a 'Fast Ford', but this is a good list.
All the way from the £5k Mondeo ST which looks like it would make a great bike/dog hauler and is strangely alluring. Back when estates were actually estates with a big old box on the back. None of this 'SportTurismo' rubbish

Is it just me or do those rear seats on the fiesta look askew?
80k for that orange Focus?! The dealer deserves a kicking just for asking.
Only Ford I've ever owned was a MK1 Granada 3.0 litre Ghia many moons ago. bought for £300 then scrapped after my bro 'knicked it' then rear ended someone on the M1.
Out of that list I'd take the Focus RS I think.

The RS500 isn't good value at all. The mk2 RS does hold it's value well but you'd have to really want the exclusivity of the matt wrap!
I do love Fords but I agree, I remember looking around the Focus RS500 when it first came out, and I didn't get it then and I still don't now. It has always seemed terribly overpriced to me. Konan said:

never took the Mark 3 on track so for me the drift mode was completely unnecessary and despite its 4WD abilities
I'm sure it could be a hoot on road, but you didn't miss much on track. It really struggles to hide it's weight and the drivetrain is horribly designed for it, so they plough wide on the way in and if you correct it on the way out it goes artificially twitchy. A loose rear end on a predominately front bias platform is usually a nice thing, but you need to be able to get a feel for it, not have power randomly jabbed backwards. It's amusing to start with, but ultimately irritating. You'd not traditionally buy a big 4x4 hatch for circuit anyway, so I guess it's largely a non issue.
Totally get that the drivetrain is a little bit gimmiky, but largely only in the various driver modes. Standard mode with DSC in 'Track Mode' it was really quite a predictable and fun car to drive, and I really liked that it used to feel quite rear biased even sub limit on the road. The front was a bit torque steery, mainly because of not having anything more special than a normal strut with a normal top mount, but it was only really bad if you have poor geo settings and a set of worn fronts.
Got a Mk8 ST now as a daily and love it. Similar traits to the RS But cheaper and probably a bit more characterful.

It's funny that you can actually put together a relatively cohesive list for a brand like Ford.
Suspect you would struggle to do something similar for Vauxhall , or Fiat, or Peugeot etc.... I know they all have a few diamonds in their back catalogues, but they are few and far between....

I've considered buying a Mondeo ST24 or ST220 before, those quite appeal at the bargain prices they've been at for the last few years.
There's not much else at the lower budget end of things that seems particularly desireable to me, and there definitely seems to be a fast Ford scene tax for the mid to higher budget levels.
