Unfortunately, he doesn't want to take the shop up on their offer of showing him the car because he obviously can't afford to buy it and doesn't want to look like a lying fool. what can I say, he's mad but he has a good conscience........I would have probably jumped at the chance if it was my dream car. Thanks for all your help guys. I think he works 3/4hours from the showroom so he might drive in on an evening and see if he can see it through the window.
Have a great day !!!!!
Thanks again.

I had the privilege of one gracing my workshop late last year.

One thing the images can never convey is the sound and smell of the engine the first. minute of starting! OOOOF

I can understand him not wanting to waste anyone’s time. I would feel the same if I thought I was there on false pretences.

But if you are totally up-front with the desire to just look one over for a few minutes at an arranged time I’d say they would be happy to help out.

I’m sure they have to endure bullstters all day.
Someone being completely honest with them might be a pleasant change.
They are car enthusiasts themselves at the end of the day.

Yeah, just tell them what you told us.

Exactly this... 99.99% of us will never get to own a Ferrari F40 so there’s no need to feel awkward or embarrassed. In fact they’d much rather fulfil a dream than spend hours if not days being messed about by someone who portrays the desire to buy but then just let them down....

In line with last few comments, if you find a dealer with one, just call them up and explain... before lockdown I took my boys over to Solihull ferrari, had a chat with the lovely receptionist (she really was lovely) about how car mad my boys were and whether they'd mind if they just had a look at a few...Two hours later, after sitting in about 20 cars and spending some time at the in showroom bar / cafe, I emerged even more determined to buy one at some point. The thing is...any good dealer should cultivate an interest and passion in their product, after all, you never know who will be able to buy one, now or in the future.

When I was about 6-10 my grandparents used to live up the hill from a garage called Glenvarigill in Edinburgh. I used to go far a walk with my grandad up the Pentlands and my on the way home treat would be stopping in at the garage.

They sold Ferrari, Porsche and Jeep. I would get to sit in all the cars and then raid the brochure stand to study when I was home.

They sales team were always really happy to show me the cars. Once there was an F40 but tbh it was always the 964/993 shape 911s that interested me the most.

As a maths pedant, aren't you saying there that 1 in 10k of us will. With 35m drivers in the UK that's 3500 of us who will own an F40. With only 1300 or so ever made, and only a handful of those being in the UK, I think that's a tad optimistic hehe

I was the same as a kid and even now (pre-lockdown) I'd visit showrooms just to admire the cars you rarely see and 9 times out of 10 they were perfectly accommodating..

I visited my local Porsche centre shortly after it opened to have a look around, made no false claims about buying one, just had a genuine interest in the cars, and they were great - free coffee and snacks, told me to look around and sit in anything I wanted, had a good chat with one of the main guys there about the brand and cars in general..

I think as long as people are honest (i.e. you're a fan and future customer, rather than a recent scratchcard winner looking to joyride an M3!), it's good to show an interest and great when it's reciprocated by the staff and showroom. It clearly rubbed off on me as *touch wood* I'll be starting my Porsche journey this weekend biggrin

As others have said one of the Goodwood breakfast clubs, super cars, Italian, V8 will generally see a few turn up. I got stuck in traffic behind one for about 45 minutes. Sounded great.

Or, like me last year, you can happen upon one in a Ferrari transporter in the middle of a completely unremarkable council area 5 minutes form your house laugh

No exaggeration, those 2 cars are worth at least 10 of the houses that the truck was parked next to. Absolutely bizarre sight..

That last photo 😆😆😆😆😆
I totally agree with you all, you never expect to go to a garage and be talked into any expensive car but finance is everywhere these days so half the country are driving cars that they can't really afford initially, F40s are a bit more obvious and I said its car crazy people doing that job so just be honest about it......or say nothing at all, never judge anyone on how much or little money they have or have not got.
I will just need to start saving now......haaaaa ! When I own one you can all come see it as much as yois want. Quite a lot of childhood stories related to cars here.....cute!!!

Bit of a mission for you guys, but there's often once at Caffeine & Machine (I've seen it a few times), shame you can't guarantee the arrival of it because you could make a weekend of it and stay over etc.

People that own garages usually like cars as much as you and totally get it.

I was once stood outside a Ferrari garage in Switzerland with my Dad at 8pm one night on the way back from skiing. I used to race so was in a full cat suit and hoody, which is a weird look at the best of times. Practically licking the window at the F40 and Enzo they had. All of a sudden this older gentlemen appears out of the office and comes unlock the front door.

Fully expecting a fk off! He asked us if we where cold and if we wanted to come in for a coffee or wine. Next thing I know I’m a 15 year old walking around the most insane showroom with a very full glass of wine laugh

Couldn’t have been nicer encouraged us to sit in everything except the customer cars he had in the back but let us see them. Basic stuff in the back like 250 GTO and SWB.

Gave me his card insisting when I grow up he would love to help get me my first Ferrari. Best day ever!

Popped in to see him again in 2019 view wasn’t bad.

That’s an insane collection!! Lovely story and is very much inline with my experiences of such places - and turns out lots of others on this thread too

Best bet is to go to one of the dedicated Ferrari events IMHO.
With covid I am not sure when the next one will be but there is normally one in the North of England at least once a year.
