Unfortunately, he doesn't want to take the shop up on their offer of showing him the car because he obviously can't afford to buy it and doesn't want to look like a lying fool. what can I say, he's mad but he has a good conscience........I would have probably jumped at the chance if it was my dream car. Thanks for all your help guys. I think he works 3/4hours from the showroom so he might drive in on an evening and see if he can see it through the window.
Have a great day !!!!!
Thanks again.

Hi Rosienchip,

If he is honest with the dealership up front, tells them that he can't afford to buy but that he is a huge enthusiast and has never seen one etc, I'm sure they will be absolutely fine. Today's enthusiasts are tomorrow's potential customers.

You go in, you be honest and respectful of the cars and the people, and you'll find the dealership and salesmen are happy to spend a little time with you, assuming they aren't busy. If they are, you'd be left alone anyway to have a look around.

Good luck and I hope he does take up their offer. For any car fan, they are quite a sight to behold.

I live round the corner from Joe Macari, and they are very open to people entering the showroom to look around. They're very good like that, and hugely appreciated by kids and petrolheads alike. Not sure how it works with Covid right now, but normally you just ring the bell, explain that you would like to look round, and they let you in. No hassle whatsoever.
I've looked over their F40 several times, and can dream of the lottery win that would allow the funds to purchase it smile

I think the best comment is never meet your hero's as you may well be disappointed.

Not sure if an F40 falls into this category though.

I still have the Autocar I bought when the F40 was launched.

This was the last one I saw:

Although this was on the south coast and not it Scotland - I managed to get a passenger ride in one at a charity car event about 10 years ago a Dunsfold where I paid about £150 for a couple of laps - sorry for the poor quality phone pic as phone's weren't very good at pictures back then smile

The event back then was called Dad's day out and I understand it's now called the Supercar event and is much bigger. I don't have any affiliation with the event but it still goes ahead - https://thesupercarevent.com. I've not been for a few years but they still offer hypercar rides, however it states the cars are announced on the day so there's no guarantee. Even if there isn't or you don't get the chance to see once, it's a great event and you get to see lot's of nice cars and of cause it's for a great cause!

Always thought that the guys that raced them in UK club racing through the 90s were particularly brave with their cash. Certainly looks that way given the current value.

Well I showed him your comments and I think he's going to give them a message and be honest stating he can't obviously afford to buy it but could he come in and look over it. I am really loving all the pictures and stories....... i am 7 months due with my son and I hope he has the same stories with his dad and about cars....... and maybe even by the time he goes to these events I might know more that what an engine size means on a car 😆 🤣 😂

Only seen them at Goodwood FoS (three years I think)
Not sure why some say the sound is disappointing. They sounded incredible.

There is a video from Autocar where the journalist (sorry can't remember his name), says the F40 is similar to the 430 Scud in spec but feels much quicker.

It does look 'kit car' like inside though. I know it's not the main point of the car, but if I spent that money on it I would want a better quality finish. Considering you can buy other exotica with the performance and a decent interior.

It’s a very long way but you mentioned he travels to Bristol... there is often one at a cars and coffee event called re:fuel that’s held once a month (pre pandemic) at Dunkeswell airfield in Devon. Couldn’t guarantee that it would be there though.

Thanks for that, sounds like a good thing to look out for.

OT, Expensive cars outside cheap houses? Think this counts laugh Bizarre indeed.
An F40 next to an MR2?
According to totalcarcheck, wrong sized engine and registered 3 years after Ferrari stopped making them.

Sorry to disappoint you but it looks like it’s a fake...
I disagree. I’ve had a car check back as an F40 on the plate. Not been MOT’d since June 2016. The proportions look right too.

It definitely doesn't count in this sense.

Like many, I've paid for a passenger ride in one and it was immense.

It's a genuine F40. The proportions are spot on and if you Google image search the numberplate there are plenty of pics of it at concours events, etc.
