Arrrgh! You’ve done it now, Jon!!!
Not to mention that the 2.2 VX as the nearest thing to a Lotus drivetrain of any modern Lotus as they developed the engine for GM! Edited by kambites on Monday 15th March 20:01

For me, I’d love an Elan 26R.
We owned a Cannon Gt which underneath was a 26R at the front and a Lotus 23 at the back. Best handling car I’ve ever driven.
A friend owns the ex Betty Haig Lotus Elite S1, must be worth well over 100k.
My own Lotus is a 1.6 135 BHP Toyota engined series 3. Deliberately bought the lowest powered one as I wanted to have fun on roads without being ridiculously illegal. I love it. That’s the beauty of them, one for every taste.
And seeing as it’s pictures now...
Was the Cannon bought from Exchange and Mart for about £400 a few decades back?We owned a Cannon Gt which underneath was a 26R at the front and a Lotus 23 at the back. Best handling car I’ve ever driven.

The same car park unless I'm mistaken! We owned a Cannon Gt which underneath was a 26R at the front and a Lotus 23 at the back. Best handling car I’ve ever driven.

Seeing as pictures and a 111S was linked in the article, here's mine.
I honestly don't know what I would replace it with. A newer S3 but they are heavier or an Exige S3, again, the same issue but with bigger dimensions.
This S1 is the longest I've ever owned a car, maybe as I get older I realise the grass isn't always greener with cars.

That's a beautiful shot! I'm really enjoying this thread. It's got me looking at past threads on Pistonheads, buyer guides and YouTube videos. Watched Harry's video yesterday of the Lotus Elan Sprint from a few years ago and it was very enjoyable to watch. I honestly don't know what I would replace it with. I have to try and get into one soon. Keep the pictures coming!!!
i bought my s1 elise brand new in 2000.
since then amongst small improvements its had upgraded brakes, suspension and a honda k20 engine.
i took it for an MOT last week and me and all the guys at the station just stood about staring at it whilst the test was done.
afterwards i felt so lucky that i was the one who got to take it home.
i cannot think of any other car at any price point that would still make me feel this way after over 20 years of ownership.

Been fortunate to own this pair for 35 years and several other well regarded cars along the way, but these are still with me. Lotus has an incredible legacy and really looking forward to what is coming later this year.
So many wonderful cars in this thread but those two parked up together like that are absolutely gorgeous. Mr E said:
I wonder how close they were on the line?
Good question, the VIN on mine ends with 70760.Years ago when I was still dreaming about ownership, I came across this one.
The plate is nearly identical.. I'm starting to suspect they built the Starlight Black 111s' in one batch
