RE: The best used Renault Sport cars to buy in 2021
Discussion
that is a pretty impressive list of small cars from one manufacturer. Williams was in one of PH's 100k lists. Still looks good today.
Would love to see an updated V6 in the back of a modern Clio, hopefully punish out more oomph than the original did.
The Turbo2 was very silly but seems to have set Renault on track to make all the others.

I've owned a ph1 172 a 182 and currently own a ph1 V6.
I preferred the 172 to the 182 as it rode better on the smaller wheels and I prefer the original interior -it is more interesting, the 182 is a bit more grown up and no better for it.
The V6 is difficult to get in and out of (mine has recaros), has a terrible turning circle, gets very hot inside, almost no dry storage space, won't straddle a speed bump, not as fast as you may imagine but is such an event to drive - it makes wonderful noises and handles fantastically well- not as the internet suggests.
I paid £1500 for the 172 , £2800 for the 182 and quite a lot more for the V6(same ballpark as the other posters)
If you want a great Renault that you can actually use on a public road the ph1 172 is still unbeatable value. if you can find a good one.

Don’t really understand the first paragraph about the Turbo 2. From a dynamic/mechanical point of view, it is identical to the Turbo 1. Renault used the regular GTL interior and steel panels to make it cheaper and sold a lot more (relatively speaking). Also the wild Maxi 5 Turbo Group B car was from the Turbo 2 era, albeit with a Turbo 1 dashboard. Having said that an Olympic blue Turbo 1 with blue interior would be the holy grail for me.
As for values, I struggled to sell my mint Turbo 2 in 2008 for £12,000...

I should (MUST) stop reading PH. After reading at 7:30am I ended up buying a RS Twingo by 12:30pm. I don't need another car! I promised I'd reduce the cars we have, not add to them! I'm citing PH as my defence in the undoubted divorce which will follow
I own a ph. 1 172 Clio since 2006 and I'm planning to do a complete renovation later this year.
With less than 110.000 Km (70.000 miles) on the clock I think it's worth keeping her up fit for some more years to come. I simply cannot find anything as fun and cheap to run and maintain in the new cars market.

there is something about the ph1 172, its raw but in a good way.I preferred the 172 to the 182 as it rode better on the smaller wheels and I prefer the original interior -it is more interesting, the 182 is a bit more grown up and no better for it.

And its the fastest one obviously.
Inferno Orange 182 Cup owner, cross country my other car wouldn't know where it had gone, also there is nothing quite like approaching a corner at any angle knowing you can find the grip to go through it at speed....on three wheels....laughing out loud that something this fun can cost £2k.

. just avoid VO54 FFZ if you see it (although I think this particular 182 has been sorted out now)
Can't quite remember the full reg of my old 182 but I recall it ended RFZ... must be something about 182's with registrations ending in FZ because I'd advise anyone to avoid that one too, stupendously unreliable piece of st that it was.I have a couple V10's and still dream about owning a Clio V6 mk2...
Just not at those prices
Always wanted one since they first came out and I was little and broke with a 1.2 Dynamique...
Now I have the money, that 60k would always find a better more exciting home....
I would if I could for under 25k tho..... Damn!!! Feels like the one that got away....

The Alpine A110 in a list about Renaults will have their owners frothing at the mouth I'd imagine!
I certainly don't care. A great car is a great car, never mind the badge. If you love cars, then the badge doesn't matter but only the way it drives and how much fun i'm having. Used to own a R26.R. It made many people question my good taste. But good taste has nothing to do with fun... ;-) The R26.R is absolutely epic to drive. The Alpine is completely different but also deserves a spot here in my opinion. R5 Turbo 2.... Wow, i need one. :-)cerb4.5lee said:

im still yet to see a megane 280 on the road
I haven't either. I think performance Renaults have mostly had their day now sadly. They have done some absolute belters over the years though for sure. I don’t see many other Mk3 Megane RS either really. Think they’ve always been a bit rarer than the Clio variants.
I’m toying with the idea of getting a Mk4 to replace my 275 next year when it’s 6yrs old (max age under my employers car allowance policy). That would be my 4th Renault Sport since 2006. Find it hard to look away from them for the balance of cost and performance they offer. I am considering a Fiesta ST as a cheaper option however - its a shame they dropped the ball with the Clio since the 200,
I think that the car which properly started off the craze for hot hatches,
the R5GTT, should have appeared somewhere in this list. Every time I
take mine out I get stopped with direct offers of cash for it, almost to
the point of inducing fear of having to walk home.
I've had precious little time with it since putting it back on the road, but
there's no doubt that a good example will only command a higher and
higher price. I can't wait for the boosting days to come
- oh, and don't pester me...

Steve
