Regrettably left mine on a driveway for the last 6 months instead of the garage that I pay for like an idiot.

Wanted to get it washed and ready today but tipping down like madness.

MOT booked for tomrrow and hopfully will get a chance to spruce it up in the morning.

My Mk1 FRS is still in the garage but i've started sourcing parts for it (new turbo, fuel pump, injectors and other bits) in the hope of getting it running in the next couple of months.

Took the covers off on Monday and fired it up for the first time since November. All sweet!

Just took it up the lane and back. Touched the brakes and on came the airbag light! Ah, dear, dear Alfas smile

Anyway it's booked in for a full health check, service, belts etc at the end of the month so we'll just add that to the list of to do's.

A pertinent post for those who only tax their cars through the summer months.

If you’re planning on taxing your car in April, do it TODAY (31st March)!

The RFL rate rises by approximately 10% depending on banding tomorrow - you can avoid this by taxing the car today, but are still able to start the taxation from tomorrow (1st April).

As a side note - cars previously in Band A (so £0) such as my daily drive (a Citroen C1) move to Band B, and are liable for charge, from 2025. frown
Thanks for this. I was going to tax it very shortly so would have been taxed from 1st April but may as well benefit from the lower rate so we're all set to hit the road tomorrow thumbup
Is the airbag light coming thing the same as what happens with 147s and 156s where the cable under one of the seats accidentally gets unplugged, triggering the airbag light? Might be worth checking for an easy fix
I think that is quite likely the cause and if it would only stop raining I'd get out and investigate. Not sure if the light will extinguish if the connection is made good or whether it'll need a code reader to reset.

Sweet! The happiness an escort brings is shared between everyone who sees and appreciates it. It's part of the British soul. 30 years ago you'd be classed as a hooligan/chav/Barry these days even the vicar will be waving you through with an ear to ear grin. Timeless.

Unfortunately a victim of circumstance, I don't like to be misrepresented or taken out of context. It's a fairly simple reminder to me as I post and those who read it. Needs must these days.

Certainly am. Mine has been in the local classic workshop for various jobs over the winter and due to be ready for 14th April. Can’t wait!

Yes I wondered that. Can someone let me know the right thing to do as I'm poised to tax it today if that's wise?
I've just taxed mine from tomorrow. The .gov website gives you the option to tax from 1st March or 1st April. Even if you select 1st April you still only pay the lower pre-increase amount. Go on line tomorrow and you'll have no choice but to pay the increased VED.
As this poster says - the website gives you an option for taxing from the 1st March or 1st April, both at the “old” price.
Yep, did it earlier, great tip. Weather even looks ok mid next week!
Ah, missed this tip. Sods law. £61 quid a month, when the wife's car is £20 for the year. At least I'll only be paying for half the year.

I'll just need to remember this for next year.

I tried to tax mine from April 1st during March (on the 29th I think) but couldn’t see any way of doing so. It clearly stated that the taxation date would be from March 1st.

Of the gazillion posters on PH you are the only person I’ve seen doing this. Tinfoil hat perhaps?

Bizarre.

Bought last May and insured on a classic policy limited to 4000 miles a year which I thought might be a bit tight... and yet here we are, almost 11 months on and it's done 182 miles and 110 of that was one trip. My wife thinks it being here is just expensive, takes up space that other things could inhabit and it just causes me grief. Ironic. Though given it can't see it's usage changing, maybe it is time to get rid. Enter "The car may have to go too" 2 cliche here.
What is it?
Back tracking... but nothing exotic, an old Volvo 850 T-5. I thought my time had come with them having had them on an off since 1999. My first was a white, manual estate and last May a rather nice white, manual estate came up and that was that really.

Currently awaiting a mass air flow meter then it needs a service kit, alignment and it's then meant to be off for a Highlands trip at month end... in theory.

A few days ago I awoke the Alvis from its winter hibernation. The first job was to repair the horn button which had let go after 96 years of stirling service. Then some oiling, greasing and adjustment including adjusting the clutch before I hit the road.

Get it sorted out and enjoy it mate. If you don’t you can always sell. But it sounds like you would miss it if you didn’t have it.

Many thanks, both. I always wanted an 80s SL in this colour, and ended up in a moment of madness buying this one sight unseen at an online auction. Not the best idea really, and whilst very nice condition bodywork, needed quite a bit of recommissioning after sitting around in a collection for 5 years.

I stripped and thoroughly cleaned interior myself, and did some fixes, but then got busy at work and she was just sitting unfinished most of last year. Hence decided to get the local classic garage to finish all the jobs. They’ve ended to having her for nearly 9 months due to a backlog caused by part ordering issues, but are now nearly done.

So am very much hoping I can drive her this summer. Will post pics when she’s back…

Came out of the garage today, passed mot this morning with no advisories.
Don’t use it enough, didn’t use it at all last year and has sat in the garage since October 21.
Retirement equals international travel so away a lot, thinking of moving it on.
