Absolutely. A sports car and even more so a super car is now far more likely to signify than the owner is a marketing and branding enthusiast rather than a driving and/or motoring enthusiast. It absolutely warms my heart to see anything being used properly, I was admiring a heavily stone chipped and well used looking Aston Martin Vanquish the other week, parked among a load of carefully detailed and immaculate peacockmobiles.
You would like my F360 then - it has "patina" wink

Me either, but if the spec and price is right, I'll take the car. Colour is never a deal breaker for me. Well, unless it's pink or something.
Conversely however, a nice colour/spec can easily entice me to overlook some other negatives with certain cars.

I was never fortunate enough to have a second car in the UK but am glad that I don't have to lay up a car for the winter anymore (winter here isn't comparable to home, no ice, no salt, temperature usually in double digits by mid day even if it's below 0 overnight) but there's such a good feeling unwrapping a car that you haven't been able to enjoy for a while for whatever reason yes

Not neglegeted at all. Mechanically it’s 100 percent but it’s not a garage queen, so there are a couple of stone chips and an interior door handle needs painting

Mine has ventured out a couple of times the last few months.

But back under cover after a very thorough detail last week while I wait for new tyres to get fitted.

In time for hopefully better weather, just had this overhauled and took it out at the weekend. Definitely better suited to drier and warmer conditions.

Yes, but it seems that some people can't tell the difference between neglect and patina. Not me btw.

Indeed.

I am genuinely unsure whether a 23 year old car should look like its fresh out of the factory, mine has a story to tell and that story has left some marks on it it.

Brief overview of the story

Ordered by a wealthy hotelier, relatively rare in black and unique in the engine subframe being factory painted black rather than silver
Sold to an investment banker who eventually went to prison for fraud
Lived with a Ferrari F40 and jag XK220 for while
Driven across Europe multiple times including some unmade mountain roads (my navigation fail)
Displayed at car shows (sat in by multiple grinning kids and their dads)
Timed up the hill at Prescott (I was slower than in my Lotus) and much slower than the Ginetta
Sat in by Derek Bell at Hotel du France whilst Jacky Ickx asked me "do you come here often" (don't think he wanted a date?)
Clutch failure mid overtake up a hill in the Cotswolds
Target of jeering when being recovered after the above event with one lad shouting "should've bought a Skoda" smile

Imho, a car should look exactly how the owner wants it to look.
If that is ‘concours’ or knackered its all up to them.

It looks as good as their time and/or budget allows.

I remember being at a Ferrari event and loads of F40’s were parked up. All perfectly spotless. Apart from one on foreign plates covered in muck and stone chips. It did look cool.

I had my car fully ppf’d when I had it. Not sure if I did the right thing or not!

I seem to remember Rod Stewart used his F40 as a daily driver, full of empty coke cans etc and rarely washed. Loved that!

Agreed. My E46 has just ended up with a complete blow over, having had wings and arches treated previously 7 years ago, and used daily by me for nearly a decade now. It's going to lovely, imola red, but in part I will miss it's 200k miles of stone chips!

I was very close to taking the Caterham out today, but it is pretty windy where I am, and I don't find the wind my best friend when I'm driving that to be fair.

The 370Z Roadster will hopefully make a guest appearance tomorrow after 6 months being on a SORN all being well. I've just got to square the garage up a bit though, because I have a bad habit of chucking stuff in there over the winter, so there is a bit of crap to move from around the cars before it comes out again.
