Jags Blags and Sl*gs........S Type Lurve
Discussion
The want for a black or opalescent grey S Type Jag is Strong !!
There is some simply superb, High Speed action in this short film.
It’s also a very fitting tribute to the criminally under rated S Type Jaguar.
The sequence where the grey S Type is being chased by Regan, Carter, etc is absolutely superb.
It’s also very clear, just how well a heavy S Type ( this opalescent grey car would no doubt have been very baggy in the suspension dept @ circa 8 years old ) could be hustled along.
Does anyone recognise any of the locations in this film ?
There is a very distinctive branch of C+A and the narrow street scenes look very East End of London, but I believe that Sweeney filming took place in West London.
Note the red Healey 3000MK111 near the beginning.
And is the black S Type a genuine Plod one ??
Watch to the end.
Some of the locations in that Sweeney episode were Battersea Goods Yard (aka ‘Lambeth Goods’), Sheepcote Lane near Latchmere Junction and Clapham Junction, and a couple of streets in Hammersmith.
Some of the stunt driving was done by Pete Brayham and some by the actor Billy Murray.

He also played a villain in the Sweeney pilot 'Regan'....
And another villain in the 1978 Euston Films six part series 'Out'....
Billy Murray played a villain in the 1968 film 'Performance' with James Fox and Anthony Valentine....

I havent heard of “Out “ or the Film “ Performance “ before.
Just looked up Bryan Marshall, very well known character actor who has sadly passed away.
Yes Marshall has been in loads of good British films and TV series though strangely never in 'The Sweeney'. He was in 'The Professionals' and 'The Long Good Friday' though, and the 1972 ITV series 'Villains' with Bob Hoskins, Martin Shaw and loads of other well known faces. I'd recommend watching 'Out', it's very gritty with some great characters, casting and locations etc. It was made right at the end of Sweeney production in late '77 and early '78 and has a very similar feel to the Sweeney.Just looked up Bryan Marshall, very well known character actor who has sadly passed away.
'Performance' is probably more of an acquired taste, it's almost two cult films in one, shot in late 1968 but not released until 1970. The first half is a gangster film with James Fox causing havoc for his guvnor (played by Johnny Shannon who later appeared in The Sweeney, The Professionals and Minder) then the second half is where he goes on the run and hides out in Mick Jagger's hippy den in Notting Hill. It's nicely filmed with some more familiar faces playing the villains, including John Bindon who was also in 'Get Carter'.
The S-Type in 'Stoppo Driver' was 'RBP 282E'
S-Type was always my favourite - and there would be a place for one in my lottery win garage without question, but then, my father was a Met.Police WO (wireless operator in old money jargon) just as the Met introduced the S-Type as Area car's in the mid 60's, so I have memories as a kid of rides in black Met S-Type's.
They were not well liked by the Class One Met Police drivers, as they were auto's and the first C reg batch of cars had the Powerlok diff's which made them not pleasant with the Powerlok diff's.
I believe the second batch of G-reg car which were almost the last batch of S-Type's to come of the production line, were 'poverty' spec and didn't have the Powerlok diff's which made them better to drive with the auto 'boxes.

Just watched all of the episodes of “ Out “ ! And omg, absolutely superb, Tom Bell was such an amazing actor, so sad that many of the cast have passed away, inc John Junkin, Tom Bell and Brian Marshall R.I.P. I loved the old Mark 10s and I loved the Mk 1 and 11 Jags.
The S- Type always looked like a cut and shut mismatch of the two designs so always jarred, in my eyes.
That's exactly what they were. The S- Type always looked like a cut and shut mismatch of the two designs so always jarred, in my eyes.
Apparently their "unresolved" appearance was quite unloved at Jaguar too, which is why they morphed into the 420 range.
Having said that, I rather like them.
DWD 606C was the two-tone one in the episode of The Sweeney with Warren Mitchell - ‘Big Spender’. The Jag turns over with one of the crooks inside (Billy Hamon). It was filmed out near Denham, along with a few other scenes in the series. A Jag with that reg is also in the opening credits, but it’s a different car as it’s all one colour.

I think its the same car, that was just given a two-tone paint job after a repair and used again. The darker colour on the two-tone paint job matches the car in the opening credits. Probably needed some body repairs after the jump etc., so they did a quick blow over and used it again.I can't remember of the top of my head which episodes, but there is another S-Type used in two seperate episodes, same reg number, but slightly different look.
I think you’re right - and the number plates were updated from the old black and silver ones to the reflective ones ...
I’ve always thought they were the same car as the plate was the same but IMDB said they were different cars. It is only today I have even noticed that one is solid colour and one is two-tone!

Poppy with James Booth has a light blue Jag at the the end in a chase and there are a couple of other episodes with silver ones in from memory ... Faces with Colin Welland, and Contact Breaker with Tony Anholt.
Col & Ray had a S-Type in the first of the two episode's they featured in when they pushed the guy into the swimming pool, and Jack & George found the sawn-off in the boot after they scarpered.aeropilot said:
