Many years ago my brother was about to take his Europa through an automatic car wash, and whilst watching the car in front go through saw a wing mirror, caught in one of the vertical brushes whipping round and pummeling the side of the car. He pulled out of the line, parked up and informed the garage personnel who promptly shut the car wash down, and retrieved the mirror from the brush. It was unfortunately too late for the car my brother had watched, whilst sitting behind it in the queue, (but it may have been that car, which the mirror had come off in the first place)
When i was a young lad I used to work at a petrol station.

I was casually watching a car in the automatic car wash as the horizontal brush banged down on the screen and smashed it to smithereens. (Pre laminated windscreen days).

I also took my MK1 GTI through a car wash on an icy day. Suddenly realised the jets must have frozen up. The (black) paintwork looked like it had been brillo padded. I remember being quite put out at the time. At least the garage paid for it to be resprayed.

Dents and scrapes always bring you a guaranteed win when confronted with entitled junction blockers as well as the merge in turn or two cars but only one parking space challenge or when some Cockwhisk intentionally undertakes a long queue to barge in at the front of it...
You always sound bitter Steve. Is it the badlands effect?
Me? Life is all very good. Nothing whatsoever to be bitter about. thumbup

You might simply be misinterpreting my anti Cock stance and yes, there's a fair chance that might have its origins in the Badlands effect. smile

How many buckets should I use for this?

What you can’t see is the mud splatters across the dash and inside the windscreen hehe
None jetwash and snowfoam will get ,90% off especially if it had a good polish applied before it got dirty

I haven't read all 22 pages so don't know if www.detailingworld.co.uk has been mentioned but it is a very good place to read a lot of info and seev how it is done properly (at a price )

I washed the wife's (black) can last weekend and used some showroom shine stuff. It's meant to be a waterless cleaner, but naturally I washed the car properly first and used it instead of demon shine or aqauwax they I normally use to get rid of waterspots.

It is actually really good as a quick finishing spray on wax. Even a week later the car still looks decent.

Must be a joy to get in and out of.

How are the interiors out of interest?

During lockdown I did machine polish it as I was bored and couldn’t take it out very far.

The chassis was treated in 2019 and the folks that did it said it is in good condition for a 33 year old Land Rover. I intend to keep it that way.

Adequate.

The 964 and the Fiat are looked after. But, we live deep in the countryside and I'd be washing the dailies every 4 hours if I used the regime some on here adhere to.

For the that's a waste of time.

I met someone in Hong Kong once who drove a dented car. This was apparently not the done thing amongst the locals, and I don’t remember seeing any, so maybe that was true. Anyway, he discovered that people would give the obvious maniac a wide berth and let him out in traffic, so he didn’t fix it...

Indeed but a muddy dented Land Rover, does it even better!

I’ll second that. I used to take my old Lightweight off road quite a bit. People used to give me a wide berth once I’d taken to the tarmac again. Cleaning was great fun, although messy. Half an hour with the pressure washer, followed by a session with two rattle cans; one khaki, the other matt black. Looked as good as knackered but clean.
