Does this help - https://www.vauxhall.co.uk/about/awards-and-accola...
They certainly advertise with a lot of magazines don't they? wink

Yup, I'll make my apologies in advance too!

But geez... a builders van included amongst a load of yesteryear tosh! How utterly fascinating hehe

"Vauxhall to sell off heritage cars" is about as exciting a headline as...

"Ferguson to sell off heritage video cassette players"
"M&S to sell off heritage elasticated grey slacks from the 1988 collection"
"Argos to sell off heritage collection of old Argos catalogues"

30 secs of mild retro curiosity quickly followed by 'who gives a fig, thank goodness for progress, the world is indeed now a better place'.

And no this isn't a 'jeremy clarksonism' that I think will be funny or popular on PH.
I had to endure Vauxhall's more regularly than was good for me 1995 - 2005. They were awful and I was convinced that even Vauxhall didn't take any pride in the garbage churned out.
Almost wilfully below average turds with nothing that would make you want to choose one if you weren't beholden to fleet manager who was no doubt getting a brown paper bag each quarter to ensure the company carpark was full of this old crap. It was notable that he chose to drive a Mercedes hehe

Why couldn't they be auctioning off something mildly interesting, like a Carlton 3000GSi with a Spanish 'box, or a Senator 3.0 24V, A Cavalier SIR130 of any vintage, a Chevette HSR, or a Firenza 2300 HP?

I'd bid on that paperbag

I gather the last few years (pre PSA buyout) they were better, by which point I wasn't forced to suffer them, but my experience of Vauxhalls and Opels completely mirrors yours.

I’ve seen a few of the older performance ones win

e.g. Astra GTE 16v won in CAR mag group test (2) , Autocar, What Car

Vectra GSi

Carlton GSi

Firenza Droopsnoot

If you count Opels then a couple more

Mk2 Cavalier won a few

This always amused.

For the record I rate some Vauxhalls.

Happily have the Omega. The others, less so.

Shame the Viva on offer is a HA, not a HB as stated. My dad put a Ford 1600 Gt in our HB, as the std 1.2 wouldn’t tow our caravan, the by-product was a nippy little saloon that would out drag an MG B. I’d be tempted to build something similar, in his memory.

Would love a Mk1 Astra GTE or even an SR if they're selling them off cheap.

You do realise it has almost definitely been rolled? Possibly twice.

And 2nd gear has seen 50mph.

It's a Nova.

Laughable isn't it. The "awards" are mostly from a bunch of fleet magazines, the Astra had a good review from What Car & a JD Power award, the rest I couldn't give a monkeys about.

Regarding the Vauxhall heritage cars, the pre 1950s stuff ought to be plonked in a museum somewhere as they are unlikely to ever become ridiculously valuable but it's nice to keep a few. The later stuff I can definitely see why someone made the decision to offload the Nova, Omega an Frontera as they aren't particularly exciting examples but in the current strange classic car market could still end up going for what I and (hopefully) many others would think is fiiiiiing stupid money!
