Back in 2006 I changed from a Civic Type R (197bhp) to an S2000 (237bhp) expecting my world to be set alight with the power increase. I recall being distinctly underwhelmed in that regard, but loved the delivery and ability of the S2000 to rev even sweeter than the already brilliant Type R engine.

I say this only because I hope anyone stumping up for the new one doesn't do so thinking the power increase is going to make a massive difference. I do hope, however, that the subtle changes to the engine bring more character because that, allied to an already sweet chassis can definitely make enough difference to warrant a change.
But the s2000 and ctr almost had the same torque figure it made power by extending the rpm limit also I think weight increased on the s2000 vs the ctr. This gt86 has a power and torque increase which should feel more noticeable. I agree it’s not night and day. But it will be noticeable.

Agree with all your previous points.

Is it me or do we need to change the website to Toyotaheads? Seems like Toyota are the only mass manufacturer company able to / willing to make fun cars. As someone has mentioned GR Supra, GR Yaris and now this. Dare I say it? Glory days for Toyota are right now?

Looks like they’ve addressed the issues with the old one. When the pcp on my MX5 ND2 ends next year, I’m in.

Exterior design wise. It look quite similar to Nissans new 400Z. Sadly a car that we won't get.

just bought myself a 2013 gt86 and all i can say is, for me at least its perfect! i can see the hype around these cars and the power it has is perfect for uk roads as you dont feel like to have fun you have to breathe the speed limit, good to see toyota making enjoyable cars!

Power and torque increases welcome, question will be have they made it feel and sound nicer to use ? Move to 18’s is interesting given the width is the same as old, the 17’s work a treat with PS4 boots on the old car.

Kudos to Toyota for still making it in my book smile

Not entirely sold on the looks; seems to be following the usual newer car trend of being a bit more puffed-up than the original.

Yep looks likes an Insignia from the back.

But for me, far more interesting than the GR Yaris which seemed a bit dull.
Love to know what you think could have made the GR Yaris more interesting?

Toyota seem to be covering most of the bases for affordable sports cars with differing characters, but it's a shame that only the GR Yaris is a proper Toyota and not a rebadged or co-developed car.

And the front-on image made me think I was going to read about a new, smaller F-type...

For me I'd have preferred a turbo engine in this. However I do really like the way it looks, and I'm really happy that Toyota are still making cars like this for sure. I do love a RWD Coupe for sure(I really like how relatively light this is too). cool

I’m the opposite, however an 86 with the 3 pot out of the GR and still sub 1,300kg would be a very interesting prospect.

There’s no longer ‘clear blue water’ between said model & A110. Intrigued to know the pricing.

peak torque on the old model was at 6400. that's practically peak revs on a lot of modern cars and certainly a place few drivers venture into. the GR will drive a lot differently right from 1st gear.

also, bonnet seems much higher. pedestrian safety i'm guessing?

I ran a BRZ for 18 months and am definitley tempted. More torque, updated (albeit still quite retro ...)interior and better tyres sorts key issues for me. A bit more sound insulation wouldn't go amiss too. Hope the driving position still works well for a 6' 4" lanky bloke and I can still wedge a bike in the back with the seats down.
