Tolerate is the wrong word , I don't start shouting at noisy cars passing .
That's good, they wouldn't hear you anyway

I think he was right first time,
'Can't tolerate them' doesn't mean he has to act against them. Just means he can't tolerate them, that's all.

I have a F Type 5 litre supercharged and the noise is just epic ! It is the reason I have kept the car for 6 years and makes me smile every time I start it. I understand that it has a 'quieter' button, but why would you....! We also have a Tesla Mod S and a new I-Pace due next week, so silent is good, too, but that F Type seems to make everyone smile, well, I think its a smile and not a grimace......

Noisy exhausts on motorbikes are a pain but round here where I live its noisy cars that are a real problem with there bomb exhaust, stupidly lowered cars and worst of all diesel turbos that have been wound up so every time the tt behind the wheel hits the throttle clouds of black smoke pour out of the bock of the stty car, mostly BMW's Audi's and VW's
I do love the sound of a Ferrari or Lambo being wound up, they never seem offensively loud, a bit like my 1250GS that has the noise regulation cheating flap in the exhaust as standard and these day I leave the exhaust as standard as I like long distance and back in 2014 I did 771 miles in a day and was sick of the noise from my Remus exhaust that was marked as road legal !

If it wasn't for noise we would not hear anything. This is why God gave us ears. If there was no noise we would not need ears. It's like eyes, if there was no light we wouldn't need those either... God gave us ears, and to make sure we appreciated this gift he then intervened in the destiny of humans and got Mrs Wilkinson pregnant. And so in the ninth month Trevor was born. And God saw that it was good, and Trevor shortened his name to TVR. And on the seventh day Trevor stuck a 5 litre Rover V8 in to his creation, and an icon was born. This was Genesis. At this same time Moses came down from the mountain on a Bonneville, and the roar of his Triumph could be heard in the valleys... (not the Welsh ones where new TVR won't be built). And so the land was awash with the sound of TVR's and Triumphs, and it was good, and the people praised the Lord for his thoughtful gifts and his love of mankind.

Fast forward to the year 2021, the world has changed, life has changed, the world is now full of.......

Please insert your own ending smile

I agree with the sentiment yes

But in reality, you put up with them all because you have no choice. Someone else has made that decision for you.
Like most noise then?
Bit like when you go to race meetings..... Selective moral high ground biggrin

I have a F Type V8 R. Completely stock, but very loud- I love it! It bangs, pops, gurgles and roars like no other.
You would think that, at 48, I would have grown out of this, but NO! Every drive is an event.

No definitely unsound.

Somehow you are trying to compare noise from motorsport events to noise on the public highway. Why not compare noise from football grounds? Or rock concerts? Or from Heathrow Airport? Or Clapham Common railway station? Or indeed any noisy activity?

Your approach relies upon lazy thinking for your own convenience loser

What about noise from motorsports that makes it's way onto a public highway?

Well I have a V8 and that doesn't have good fuel consumption or emissions so that annoys some people.

It has a fruity exhaust so that will annoy some.

I go to a lot of events and I know the build up in traffic around smaller towns during said events annoys some people.

I like to drive my car for fun and I know some people are annoyed at that.

I have some modifications on my car which annoys people.
agree with all of the above

To be clear I haven't ever had anyone come to me in person and complain but these are all things that I have seen people have a moan about on here so my point is this isn't a hobby that you can completely avoid annoying people with.
I've had a 'disagreement'.... picture the scene: In Turkey chatting to a bloke who worked for Virgin airlines. The subject got on to cars and I mentioned that my one was (at that time) a 5.4litre supercharged pickup truck. Prick got all sniffy about how "....no-one needs that sort of vehicle...." and "...needlessly wasteful..." blah blah blah (the irony of him whinging about green issues whilst abroad and working for an airline was rather lost on him hehe )

Think he'd have blown a gasket at the noise levels and engine size of the current car (not to mention its possible replacement!)

Yes that is critical yes

Early in this thread, there are a couple posts related to road rallying which has changed radically since its heyday in the 1970s. These days emphasis is placed on quiet cars driven conservatively in sensitive areas. Also PR before events placates criticism from locals.

Unfortunately presence of a few noisy chavs unconnected with the rally, can undo all this goodwill.

Quite a few years ago I repaired a Honda CRX, the one with the unusual tailgate, which was fitted with a very noisy exhaust. After I had repaired it I delivered it 20 miles after that drive I was never so glad to get out of a car, my head was pounding my ears were ringing and I have race, rallied, rallycrossed and generally messed about with cars all my working life and never have I heard such a racket as that CRX

Let them ring out. It'll all be gone in 20 years.

Personally I like 6 and 8 cylinders if we're talking even, 3 and 5 cylinders if we're going odd. V-Twin works as well, but as I prefer cars to bikes the Morgan 3-wheeler is in a bit of a class of it's own.

It's impossible to read your posts, they are so poorly put together and make no sense.

I suggest this is not the motive of loud exhaust chavs. The want to]ne be noticed 'on the street' to impress their mates and all those young girlies. Loud is the biz, innit? (Apologies for any expired terminology)
You're a hypocrite. What you enjoy you don't think matters, but you complain about others. I am all for racing and fruity exhausts, but I am not calling every man and his dog a chav. You need to give your head a wobble.

I have no issues with a nice sounding car or bike, what I have an issue with is idiots that think everyone else within a half mile or more radius should have to listen to their vehicle, especially when it's late at night, early morning etc.

Having a really loud exhaust on any road car or bike means that by definition you are a selfish muppet who only cares about what they want and has zero consideration for other people.

You can try and justify to yourself anything you like, but that does not make the above statement untrue.

Cars do not tend to be that bad offenders, it tends for the most part to be bikes that are the issue around where I live and the number of them that think that waking everyone in a half mile radius up is unbelievable.

I suspect the thing that gets me the most, is that the sound is not "good", it's just really loud. Really loud is not good, it's just obnoxious and anti social.
