RE: Mercedes EQS revealed with 478-mile range
Discussion
I like it, I don't love it but it's the first EV I've seen that I thought looks quite nice. Not in the silly two tone paint but in a nice deep metallic I think it would look pretty good.
Also if judging by comments on here it has actual range of near 400 miles then it becomes a feasible long distance car........if you can afford one as I've no doubt it'll be pricey. My diesel S Class will do 700-800 miles to a tank but the most I need really is a comfortable 350 really but nice to see EVs albeit high end ones are pushing the boundaries on range. My 2030 the tech may have filtered down the range too.
Looking at the lines of the car though, if the next gen CLS is the last model to carry that name I can see why as this EQS looks to be styled more CLS than S Class.

find it tastless and tacky....if not ugly....though haven't been a fan of merc design for a long time.
Yes, I thought that initially, but if you ignore the truly dire colour schemes inside and out, I actually rather like it. Why do manufacturers feel the need to specify their electric press cars so weirdly?ChrisCh86 said:
Would make a truly incredible airport taxi for the super rich, I can't imagine it's going to be much cheaper than £100k in any format. Let's see what the UK pricing is.
List price of bog standard S350d is £78,730 and you see loads of them around central london, and not even for the super rich. I've been picked up quite a few times in a S class when clients book travel for me. The S580e plug in hybrid is £89,105 before options, so even if the EQS is £100k, it's not exactly way more expensive than a regular S class, is it?

Therein lies the problem . I’d never spend my own money on an a class when I constantly get driven to and from airports in one Amanitin said:
Yeah, that is grim.Also, don't know if it's the angle, but in the interior shots, the dash and top of the steering wheel look really high compared to the seat. Also waistline, particularly in the rear, looks really high from inside. I wonder what the EQS looks like in profile next to a regular S Class? Is it actually quite MPV like?

Two points;
1) that’s really not what it’s for
2) if you did, I suspect it might do better than we’d expect. I doubt very much it would be *fun* but it would be uncomfortably rapid.
My M5 was rapid although not particularly enjoyable as it weighed 1.9t. This monstrosity manages to be 700kg heavier ffs.1) that’s really not what it’s for

TX.
Great product design, however it surely looks pretty abysmal to anyone who understands Pistonheads/ Petrolheads / Gearhead enthusiast values. It is intentionally moving away from the engine compartment defined three box design. The W126 S Class 560SEL / W140 600SEL and the E32 / E38 750il are surely what the non-flashy stylish limousine should look like. I’m not 108 years old (and there is nothing wrong with the old, people should listed them an awful lot more) I was born in the 1980s. This car might be the point as which I decouple my enthusiasm from “cars” entirely to “classic cars”. Can’t hold back the tide, but I’m going to be interested in watching it come in either.

The C5 A6 was a pretty striking car when it was launched ... in 1997-8. Just because it’s old doesn’t make it ugly. The C5 RS6 is a particularly good looking car and goes like a train . This site just gets weirder ... cars on here have to be between 28- 55k, brand new, or modern classics made between 2000 and 2008, or £500 cars where people say “you’ve overpaid mate” for them not to get hate. I have bought a Vectra GSI from an auction for £100 (the homologation special with the vents in front of the front wheels); I have driven a 488. I like all sorts of cars. The A6 C5 was doing its best to look modern around the turn of the Millennium, just as the E65 7 Series did in 2001-2002. Those two designs influenced designs for many years. It doesn’t make the new designs, influenced by them, intrinsically good, but more does it make an old design a bad design because it has influenced a new design . See the NSU Ro80, which, rotary engine aside, led directly to the A6 C5. This new Mercedes should be happy to look like an A6 C5, but it doesn’t , as it it a one box design leaning to three, whereas as the A6 C5 is a three box design, leaning to two, like the Citroen C6.Edited by myhandle on Friday 16th April 03:22
