I'm a big fan of veteran Hyundais :-)
Hyundai/KIA manufacturing quality isn't only a recent thing, after the factory upgrades in Ulsan in 98 they were able to provide 10-year/100,000 mile warranties to the US market. The cars for the European market were built in the same factory, but for some reason didn't come with the same level of warranty as the US. But the engineering quality was there...(if not the trim and finish!) But I reckon this shed will still be running long after it's German/European contemporaries have spluttered to a standstill.
Interesting info for my fellow Hyundai anoraks... the door handles, ignition switch, and column stalks are the same as fitted to the '96-'01 first-gen Hyundai Coupe. Nice that the indicators are still on the traditional British side, (i.e. the right), allowing signalling whilst simultaneosly changing gear etc.
It's a nice day today so I drove my 98 Hyundai Coupe to work, really stands out in the corporate car-park among all the grey German stuff! ...56k miles and only cost me £900, so yes this shed is a bit over-priced I reckon.
I like them too, and would run around in the old Sonata quite happily!!Hyundai/KIA manufacturing quality isn't only a recent thing, after the factory upgrades in Ulsan in 98 they were able to provide 10-year/100,000 mile warranties to the US market. Jesus suffering f**k. You've been scraping the barrel for weeks, Shed, but there's nothing left at the bottom now, you've scraped at it that hard. It used to be the case that we were treated each week to something fairly unusual for the price point but now we're just getting crap we could otherwise find week in, week out. The Accord from a few months ago was about as close as it gets to something potentially worth reading about and even that was as dull as a rainy weekend in Telford compared to the days of Type-Rs gracing SOTW.
Covid madness has driven up prices of even sub-mediocre sheds. Perhaps its time Shed followed suit.
couldnt agree more. I know Sheds been around a while and they dont want to keep repeating vehciles, but surely we'd be more intersted in a repeat example of something a teeny bit PH at least....Covid madness has driven up prices of even sub-mediocre sheds. Perhaps its time Shed followed suit.
Or...has Dulux PR been put in charge
OK, I will own up, I bought (for Mrs. DG) a minor face lift version of this. Badge as a Hyundai Moinca for the Korean market.
Now for some context, I live in a country where 2nd hand car prices are very high, we looked at 12 year old Audi A6 rather tatty GBP 18,000, they say you can’t polish a turd, trust me where I live they can.
The only option was to go new, so back in 2009 with a budget of GBP 10,000, We visited many dealers, base model Fiesta’s GBP 15,000, similarly Focus GBP 18,000, all cars had extras adding a couple of grand to the price. We spent ages looking.
Then a visit to Hyundai, a Hyundai Sonata (Moinca) GBP 9600 on the road. Knowing these had little following in the UK, I checked out American websites, where reviews seemed positive.
To use PH parlance, I pulled the trigger or lit a damp fuse, depending how you look at it. While it may not be the most dynamic car, it’s certainly not the worst, I’ve driven some SUV’s that give about as much feedback, as a Asian hooker gets, giving an elderly drunken German sex tourist a rub and tug.
To those of you saying I would rather walk, summers here hit 30c and winter can go below -30c.
The car has been completely reliable only requiring routine servicing. I will let you walk, while I travel in comfort.

those arches look a bit frilly I reckon its a bag of sand tops. Was hoping it was an XG when I opened the page and before my first sip of coffee. Those were so 90s tastic they came with a Minidisc player, ah the memories! My Dad had one of these in South Africa made in Botswana and it was solid and utterly unattractive to car jackers and the like.
Now years later I am a Hyundai fan as in the U.S they are still seen as a bit less than compared to Toyota et al. My Santa Fe and Elantra are great family hacks! If I came back to Blighty I would definitely have something like this as a tip car at the right <1k price.

In the day I worked in weybridge, and there was Hyundai office there, which is probably where the biggest group of these so called cars were ever parked at one time. How sh** they looked then made me laugh - the fact that any of them have survived and that anyone thinks they are worth more than scrap amazes me today. I would rather walk everywhere than have that on the drive.
Get it into the banger circuit now and save a Ford.

The thing is though that there is loads of interesting and/or sporty stuff out there for one n'arf, even these days. That's not saying that it will be reliable motoring and in top fettle, but still. I think the limiting factor for shed of t'week is having to pick from the PH classifieds, there is a better choice of budget motors on Autotrader and eBay...
Yes, the PH classifieds are utter crap. dandare said:
That is so ugly that you could simply put a Mercedes badge on it, and it would fit inconspicuously straight into their range.
As a shed, I would say that it is probably very good. It's cheap and fairly reliable.
I think I would wear a disguise if I owned it, though.
Almost top shedding!
Come on! Where's your aspiration? As a shed, I would say that it is probably very good. It's cheap and fairly reliable.

Put an AMG badge on it.
No!No! Better still, put a Maybach badge on it

Is it wrong to disrespect people who drive these PoS cars?
If they don't respect themselves...
I'd say it wasn't disrespectful to do that per se, I'd say it was the behaviour of a . If they don't respect themselves...
What would you think about this... I once bought a Proton GL 1.3 because I'd already decided that I would buy the cheapest car in the country, whatever it was, at the time on AT (it was £175) so I left Newcastle for Nottingham to pick it up. Did I respect myself? I didn't really care. Would I respect a like you with a mindset like yours? No.
