Hi All,

First time poster...! Struggling to understand some pricing I've been given by BMW for my next service and hoping someone can advise what I may be missing!

I have an almost three year old F15 that was first serviced in Aug 19 when the engine oil, Microfilter and 'Recirculated air cleaner' were serviced at 17k. From memory this was around £400. I had the brake fluid service come up and booked in at the main dealer, but by the time it was due in the engine oil service indicator had come on. They couldn't do all the work together so I paid £98 for the brake fluid and the 'standard scope' (now at 32.5k).

I've just been sent the invoice for next week's engine oil service, and even with the standard scope taken out, they are quoting me £812.58!! I can't see what elements can even make up such a charge, and the OBC is definitely only showing the engine oil light, due in 1,000 miles or Aug 21.

I'm keen not to spend any more than I need as I am getting rid in the next month or so, likely through a part ex so I only want to meet the obligations. Does this sound right to anyone in the know, or are they adding in future requirements all in one?

Many thanks for taking time to read and reply!

What engine? Have you checked the BMW service site? Brake fluid service should be around £73 including standard scope. (South East area).

Apologies, 3l (30d M Sport) - servicing at Oldbury, West Mids - I checked Rybrook in Worcester and Solihull as I live right in between all three and they were similar costs for the brake fluid (c.£60 + c.£40 for this standard scope).

Yes check the value servicing section of BMW GB site. It applies to cars over 3 years. You may have to "borrow" a reg number to check pricing if your car is not quite there yet.

thanks, checked mine and a 3 year old model, and the costs are both way lower than what I was quoted - however my main issue is the car shows I need an engine oil service only?

I'd ask for a breakdown on that £812.58.

If it was a petrol, I'd imagine a BMW main dealer could get to £812.58 with an oil service, all filters and a spark plug change. Not sure about diesels and when glow plugs are changed.

“Recirculated filter” is the Microfilter, as far as I was aware.

My 335D had the Oil, oil filter, and microfilter on it’s 1st service.

2nd service had the above, plus air filter and fuel filter.

Including the scope, looks like it’s £543 for an 18 plate version of your car, at Wolverhampton....

If you’re using Oldbury, I’d advise against letting them wash your car smile

There’s no separate boxes for the various filters in the idrive, to tell you what is required. They need to read your key.

Conversely, when you get the various filters replaced, and look in the idrive’s history, you can see them all individually listed.

It does beg the question as to why it can’t just show them in the ‘required/due’ list, too smile

I had the same thing with my 5 series.

Idrive said oil service but that seems to be a generic term for ‘service’

So, I had a major one in the late 30,000 miles. It was about £800 too so you’re not miles out.

Thanks all, I did ask them for a breakdown on Thursday, nothing as yet though so will chase again. If they are required immediately then Ill just have to suck it up - I'd read somewhere that Microfilter change is every two years (i.e. Aug 21), but maybe that's not the case!

I can see how they get to that figure. If you go onto BMW site and click servicing you can build the service requirements. Schedule should include oil service, micro filter, general scope, MOT if coming up to 3 years. Brake fluid should be 3 years then every 2 years thereafter. For that price are they saying that you need spark plugs and air filter as well. As I say you can build the service on BMW site. I wouldn’t take it in until you’ve had the breakdown.

Hi Doc,

Thing is, I had the brake fluid service and scope last week, and the MOT is booked in elsewhere - the Engine oil service with microfilter, air filter & fuel filter is quoted at £660. Hopefully the breakdown will shed light on what is being charged for!

I thought I would post an update (in case anyone is ever researching a similar problem!) - the services due (in 1,000 miles/08/21) are:

- Oil filter
· Fuel filter
· Air filter
· Microfilter

· Additional (re-circulation) microfilter

· Vehicle check

This is £812 when the standard scope (paid for last week) is removed. I have checked with BMW Finance and as long as the warning is still amber I can hand the car back with no penalties. I asked Rybrook for a price when I was in with the wife's 430 yesterday, and they quoted £722, so I have provisionally booked in for a few weeks time in case I've not sold/handed back by then.

Thanks everyone for the earlier guidance - it's just a case of bad timing that a major service is due just as I'm about to get rid!

I would also look at booking it on online.

I've been caught twice at Knights. Once with my 330d and last year my 640d.

Online rates are lower than of you call them!
