2018 Audi s3 8v saloon panoramic roof problems. Of opens and closes with a push without pushing it, the roof doesn’t open or close. The motor works took the headliner out to access it. I have been told it could be some clips on either side I don’t know as I’m not a roof specialist. Amy help as to what it could be or where I can go would really be very much appreciated as I have come to a brick wall trying to get this sorted. Last thing I want to do is putt the headliner and windscreen along with all other interior pieces back in for someone to say that they have to take it all back out and want to charge me for it. Amy help will be appreciated thank you.

You 'did all the checks'... so you knew it was an imported damaged Aussie car beforehand and read up on how to register it? You also researched the company you bought from beforehand as well..?

I always thought as a kid that it would be quite cool to have a Q plate.

Step by step guide here
https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration

Always essential to check the registration situation of any import before buying, but unfortunately it looks like you've been caught out.

Didn't we have a thread not too long ago about someone buying a wrecked Audi from Australia that tried to register it over here?

I wonder if it's the same car...

Sorry not Amy. Any help. So I purchased a car that was advertised as a unregistered import from Australia. So checked the company out they had a lot of high end cars. I questioned them in the regards to what the process is etc. I looked on gov.com on dvla and if isn’t see anything stating why it how a car gets a Q plate. This wasn’t mentioned to me by the seller he told me fill in a v55/5 for them apply for an Iva and get an mot wait for registration that’s it. Coming to find out that two other people are in the exact same situation. I wanted to understand what I do first swim do I book an Iva test first or fill in the v55/5 form then book the Iva and MOT. Plus why are these cars getting Q plates when there is a number of cars coming from all over the world getting registered as Uk reg cars. Plus the guy who sold me the car has an Audi himself from Australia registered on UK plates. No I don’t want any abus or people telling me it’s me fault etc. I’m asking questions that I would like and help or info on. I’m not the o my person who’s in this situation so I can’t be the only other person wrong.

Have a look at this site it goes through what they do to import and register n Australian car.

It looks like you need to do the last couple of steps, check compliance, get iva test and then you can register it.

Any reason you went for an Australian import? Sounds like a lot of trouble to get a car that is available in the UK.

A car with no accident record, that has been exported via the proper channels from Australia or elsewhere, can be registered here on a regular age-appropriate plate (not a Q plate).
If it's under ten years old it'll need an IVA, if over that age an MoT will suffice.

If the car was written off in Australia and exported on that basis, the situation will be different.

Was the car damaged when you got it? And/or do you know if has had damage repaired?

It’s not the same car that was on a forum not long ago he was another person who purchased a car from these guys. It was damaged repairable from what I seen it’s was initially bumper headlights and some paint work where it had been scuffed. Thank you for everyone’s replies. Why I have called them conmen us because I spoke to someone who purchased a Mercedes c63 off the sale guys and they did the same thing didn’t tell him that the car would be registered on Q plates they clearly stated that you will be the first Uk registered owner on UK reg plates. Had I known otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered. The reason bought the car in the first place was the spec of the car and was just sold on the fact I could obtain such a new car with the option ms it had. If I had known I wouldn’t have bothered. If it’s all smooth sailing I’ll be ok but two other people who purchased cars from these guys have had there cars go in Q plates and me speaking to the Mercedes c63 owner. He even mentioned he’s had no help from these guys whatsoever they don’t answer their phones or reply I have called n left messages no answer or replies.

Thank you very much. The other reason why I’m finding it difficult I tried to get a v55/5 form from the main post office plus 3 more in my town non of them had the forms. I called the dvla explained that I have purchased a car that was imported here from Australia. What do I do? I asked. They said fill in the v55/5 form and send it off to them. But other people have said get an Iva test plus mot first that’s why I’m confused. I really appreciate all the help and comments thank you. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Thank you for your reply there is no specific or special reason it was the deal I was getting on the car that’s all. Like I’ve mentioned I’m the third person that I’ve managed to find who have purchased a car from these guys so it’s no just down to me bro g stupid or unintelligent. I really appreciate all and any help from you guys thank you.

Sounds like people getting caught out trying to save a few £. Not conmen as they’ve told you it needs registering.

It appears that the V55/5 application form can be downloaded here https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/registe... then you print it out and fill it in.

When I imported a car (over ten years old) from Japan, I got it MoT'd first, and then sent off the V55/5 form to the DVLA. It appears from this https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicles-into-the-uk that the same is true with the IVA, you get the vehicle tested first, then once it's approved you can apply to register it with the DVLA.

The other question is, what Australian paperwork have you got for the car? You would normally need the 'de-registration certificate' (export certificate) from the Australian authorities, showing the car's been legally exported from Australia, in order to register it here. The presence of that, and what it says on it about the car's status (roadworthy vs written-off vs scrap) probably determines whether or not you can register it here, and whether you can avoid a Q plate.
