Volvo S80 of anything recent. Probably because it was base spec with proper tyres.

Ever, it would have to be the Hydragas suspended Austin Ambassador I had in 1987/8

I'm undecided on which was the most soothing.

My contenders were a 1978 Granada 2.8 Ghia, a 1985 Scorpio and a 1980 Mercedes W123 280e.

Thinking about it now probably the Merc. It just rode so smoothly with minimal road noise.
I bet the Scorpio was a bit of a come down after the Mercedes 280E.
It wasn't because I had the Scorpio before the 280e. laugh

And as the Scorpio was only 5 years old when I got it but the Merc was over 10 it didn't feel that much more special than the Scorpio.

Plus the Merc felt pretty pretty basic in spec after the Scorpio because Mercedes didn't even fit a stereo as standard! The Scorpio came with ABS, heated mirrors, front screen and front seats, plus electric seat adjustment front and rear and A/C!

LOL. This would be the time that the Germans would make you pay for the wiring harness for the stereo before "letting you" buy the actual unit. There were some very very sad company cars in the car park back in the day when someone was so keen on having The Badge they overlooked everything else :-)

Another S- Class

There was something about this S class I had for a few years as my work car... It always felt 'cozy' and protective. Black interior and I think it had some sort of 'scent' system. If I had a long journey I would always take this. Here it is at the long stay at Gatwick... after a tiring trip.. loosen the tie, light a cigar, pop on a bit of Bach and sail home... ahhhh...
Funny you should mention the black interior. I have been tentatively searching for the perfect W221 CDi (most here are bog-spec ex-limousines, and my boss's wife has one in black/black), for me, the light cream/ black dash or grey seem to fare better and look less baggy. The butterscotch inside is just strange! I'd love to come across one in the dark red and the light interior with a good spec (sunroof, xenon, and memory seats). Out of interest what's it like on juice? Driven my boss's W222 but that doesn't count as you don't take it easy biggrin

1999 Merc C240 Elegance auto.
Never got tired driving.
Smooth as silk with sufficient kick down for effortless overtaking.

Depends on the engine you choose. Over the last 25k miles I’ve averaged 32mpg in an S320CDI - does much more on the motorway but the last year has been (obviously) much shorter journeys.

Mine has the grey interior - at 130k and 11 years old it still has pretty much no wear.

320 CDi for sure, a 2008-on one as the tax changed from CC to CO2 based here in July '08, road tax went from €1,494 to €1,200 on them - a saving of more than my Mondeo costs to tax for the year! I have noticed that the grey seems to wear the best inside, and the one I drove with silver/grey, pan roof, xenons and memory seats was sold by the time I got back from the test drive frown

I remember being picked up in a Vauxhall Omega from the airport a few times, it was the most comfortable ride I can remember.

By the time I qualified for airport pick-ups it was all E/S Class Mercs, 5/7 Series BMWS, A8s, etc.

But the most soothing one was a Jaguar XJ8 - just lovely!

Car that I've had is my G20 320d. Lovely, very quiet, very comfortable and I'm astonished at how far cars have come on tbh. But this car has the small wheels, soft leather seats and sound insulating glass. Lovely.

Me and my Dad had a look at a Toyota Camry the other day. So comfortable and I would be everything I have that it would be the most soothing car ever.
