RE: New 374hp BMW M240i xDrive previewed

If by growing it's become the size of the E46, that's fine by me.
The previous 1 Coupe and subsequent 2 Coupe had terrible packaging which meant they really borderline 2+2s - if this gets that right they could have a winner. The 4 Coupe is really quite a big car, and whilst it might have power, it's not especially nimble.
This could be a sweet spot - at least if they don't lumber it with rubbish styling.
And PH, be grateful that they are even bothering, this could easily have been a model to kill off in the current climate. The business case must be fairly marginal, so perhaps backoff on the hate comments guys!

While it'll be bigger, heavier than the last 2 series (aren't all cars compared to their previous generation) it should still be a very good car.
Yes, a Manual would be a bonus, but as with most cars these days, a manual box is sadly a very rare thing.
I bought my first BMW in January 2020, complete with that Straight six engine. It's probably the most impressive engine, in any car I'd owned (aside from the V8 in my old R8) and going forward, I think I need a BMW Straight six in my life.
Given big capacity engines are destined to go the same way as the manual gearbox, BMW should be applauded for sticking this engine in the new 2 series.

The 2 Coupe is already the size of a E46. Mine is a comfy 4 seater with the same rear space as the hatch and a massive boot. The previous 1 Coupe and subsequent 2 Coupe had terrible packaging which meant they really borderline 2+2s

The size of the current 2-coupe seems fine to me

I'm pleased that BMW are making it for sure, in my mind this would've been one of the first models to get culled from the range now. It must do well in other markets apart from the UK I reckon. s m said:

Maybe not everyone's definition of "comfy 4 seater" is the same.....
That's correct - bear in mind that the 2 series is a 1 series hatch in terms of rear passenger space so if you find the 1-series almost like a 2+2 you will of course find the 2 series being like a 2+2. Whatever you do, don't get in the back of a 2+2 like a GT86 as you'll realise how much of a comfy 4 seater the 2 series is compared to a genuine 2+2.note to BMW.
this is a car i would consider buying as a daily driver in spite of all the compromises. i am a serial brand new BMW buyer who enjoys the brand and i still think many aspects of these suit me . BUT i simply cannot live with a giant bugs bunny tooth grill.
first time my sister has looked elsewhere for an alternative to her beloved BMW's, that grill isnt divisive its bloody horrible. cash buyers not padded out by pcp deals will not pay serious money for a luxury car if when they park it and look back over their shoulder they think its ugly.

Will be interesting to see what sort of "nose" it gets. The blocked off prototype suggests that it will be more "normal".
Hopefully this is a sign of BMW reacting to all the lovely feedback they got from their recent efforts on the 4 series. Hopefully.
Leaked photos of the new 2-Series have been online for a long time now, it has a more ‘traditional’ grille design similar to the 3-series. Hopefully this is a sign of BMW reacting to all the lovely feedback they got from their recent efforts on the 4 series. Hopefully.

Not sure what this has to do with how you pay for the depreciation. What if you like the new grille ? Personally I quite like it. Perhaps design is subjective.this is a car i would consider buying as a daily driver in spite of all the compromises. i am a serial brand new BMW buyer who enjoys the brand and i still think many aspects of these suit me . I'm 6 foot 1 and sat in the back of the 3 Door hatch equivalent all the way from Stoke to Bruges, and actually found it more spacious than the old E36 I used to travel to France in the back of. Access still wasn't great, but fine when I got in there.
i meant- my neighbour buys his German cars on PCP deals , mainly based on which car dealer offers the best pcp payement deal for a medium sized saloon over a time period.
- he doesn't care what grill is fitted as long as the pcp deal is sweet.
my point was i pay for my car upfront and although depreciation is a consideration. i am passionate about design when i shop not exclusively about the deal. I wonder possibly this is why so many ugly. overweight cars sales figures hold up in the face of criticism.i may be wrong its just a thought.

You seem to know your neighbour very well, perhaps he actually likes the grille as surely, this is quite subjective - still no idea what this has to do with PCP.- he doesn't care what grill is fitted as long as the pcp deal is sweet.

Conversely, you can be passionate about design and like the new grille, I can't see any reason for the two being mutually exclusive either.
