M2 will be RWD and manual. Sounds promising.
Indeed but do we know that for a fact about the manual box?

Well we won’t know for sure until we see it in the flesh that’s true but they have indicated there will be a manual and new 8-sp slushbox ( replacing current 7-speed? DCT) so we can hope

I'll reserve judgment until the G87 M2 is revealed but I seriously doubt it will be as good looking as the F87 M2, that's pretty much a given.

Putting aside the general populations utter obsession with performance figures, it will be a 'better' car than the previous model just as the M2 was 'better' than the 1M (hydraulic steering aside!) but if it doesn't LOOK as good as the previous model then I think I'll be keeping my F87 for a very long time indeed.

I'm a lifelong BMW fan but I stopped getting excited about BMWs since the release of the G range of vehicles, there isn't a single model in the line up that is attractive anymore. If I could make the step up to Porsche I would, sadly nothing else excites. I'm just glad to have enjoyed so many of the brands previous cars.

Which reminds me, somewhat irrelevantly, of the sainted Mario Andretti's observation – "If everything's under control, you're just not driving fast enough..."

And whilst I'm (not) on the subject, why are you people so obsessed with BMWs? I bought a new 2002 in 1970 and got it (them) out of my system. I then discovered Maseratis...

The previous one had a straight 6 no?

BMWs range is highly confusing where they appear to have a saloon version of the FWD transverse 1 series, which I think is what you are referring to, and also this a longitudinal RWD coupe, which is the replacement for the M240i.
Yes, well the current M135i and M235i are 4 pots with X-drive, which whilst very capable, lack a bit of character. It's good to see for the coupe which is likely pitched at more of an enthusiast, will be getting the 6 pot.

I wont if they'll introduce the 6pot into the M135i and 2 GC also when they're facelifted.

I don't think that platform would take the 6 pot, particularly if they have to turn it 90 degrees.
