Nothing wrong with any of that of course, and those who habitually pour derision and scorn on anybody owning a less prestigious or valuable car than their own or denigrate and insult those who've deliberately chosen a shed and are reveling in the freedom of not giving a toss anymore are simply revealing quite a lot about themselves whenever they do so.
.
That's all in your head Steve and it reveals far more about the chip on your shoulder.

Nothing wrong with a shed ; nothing wrong with a non shed either, no need to put it on a pedestal just because you did.
I think that’s clear to see on almost any of his posts. The judgement of others is to behold.
Yep. Steve is the one with the problem not anybody else. Quite sad really and his "copy and paste" posts get rather wearisome.
Gameface and ddom not in yet?

Never mind, I'll pop back later for my judgement. rolleyes

I've just bought what was supposed to be a shed with tons of space for supermarket trips and general errand running in order to save my Porsche for fun trips. The only problem is that my new shed is far too nice and if it got any parking dings I'd be totally gutted. Oh well, I might have to buy another car for shedding duties!

Get that onto the barge thread.
7 series? I had a 735iL in the same colour. Hilarious fun even on remoulds, smacking the sump out on what was really a rally circuit and lots of warning lights. Chopped it in for a fully loaded 2000 528i and enjoyed that even more. And then the E61 M5 arrived.....

As the Pub Landlord would say: "It's Broken Britain".

Then again Italians seem to treat any journey as a race without mirrors and parking is an activity where the other person's car is simply there to use as a bump stop when parking.

I'm fortunate to be slightly disabled so that I get one of those magic blue badges. Can park right at the door and have loads of extra width to park without anyone bashing their doors into my car. It's very civilised.

Makes not being able to walk properly totally worth it.

There's the added bonus of the hierarchy of fellow blue badge holders who will usually regard themselves more worthy of a badge than you, reminds me of Monty Python's 4 Yorkshire Men. 'Luxury, I'd dream of being able to use a walking stick, at least you still have legs!'

2016 brand new sparkling black GTD pride and joy 10 days old. 7Pm parked well away from the main drag at Sainsbury’s, Newport , Gwent. Popped in for some fresh bread. 5 mins later stood in disbelief by my car looking at the complete off side front wing smashed to bits. Went back in to ask to see camera evidence of the culprit only to be told by security cameras did not cover where my car was parked. I just couldn’t do something like that and drive off, but clearly loads of plebs can. My next car was a 2006 Subaru Legacy estate with a great big tow bar bought for next to nothing. Everything thing working perfectly, leather ice cold a/c. Two years in still got it. Why spend thousands on a new shiny car when you constantly worry about where you park it. Get a cheap shed and forget the ego!!
You could probably have retrofitted seat heaters...

I have a 14 yr old Cayenne with many scrapes and visible dents all caused when parked. Used to tow and also as a large dog transport. My default shopping device.
I have better cars. I have found that PPF is excellent for minor scrapes and have replaced some panels with no damages to paint underneath.

The way around this is:

1. Have children - you can then park in the 'family' spaces with loads of room.
2. EV/Hybrid - then you can park in the big EV space, which are sometimes near the door
What big ev space?
Don't know a single supermarket with a electric car space around here

Only know of two charging points in my entire town (approx 56k people)
One at a local shopping centre and one in the town centre
All three of my local supermarkets have ev spots and chargers, one is right next to the door

Brits seem to be paragons of virtue with cars compared to many French, Spanish and Croatian people.

Sit with a coffee and watch the passing traffic or wander round any town or village in Euroland and just a casual glance will show virtually every middle aged or older car has picked up multiple scratches, battle scars and dents in the bodywork as well as quite a number in Spain and especially the Canaries that have been keyed right down to the metal on both sides.

It's why I always take a shed or hire the cheapest and most basic car I can get my hands on and spend the difference on weapons-grade insurance whenever I'm traveling abroad.

Oh yeah, parking in Spanish cities is something else. Unless the gradient demands it they leave the handbrake off so other cars can nudge them as they squeeze into a gap. A friend of mine there had a Rover Streetwise and it actually made sense. Small car, big black plastic bumpers. It was one of the least-wrecked looking cars there by dint of starting out looking crap. I think this probably explains the side bumpers on those Citroens a few years back as well... quite a sensible feature really.

I remember sitting in a cafe years ago in Paris watching the locals nudge parking in the street. It was hilarious but taught me never ever to take a decent car from the UK to a European city.

True - you need to plan but Europe has some wonderful roads. A shed would be dreadful there.

Stay in decent places with secure parking and enjoy.

Talking of dings in car parks, back before finishing school in 2019 I was working at the Co-op on my kiosk, selling cigarettes, lotto tickets and alcohol to blatant addicts so some exec could buy his 5th holiday home. A woman came up to me and said "I'm so sorry I've just reversed into a car in the car park, could you put an announcement out". Being the polite gent I am I obliged and asked what reg, colour, make and model. "2008 Blue Suzuk-"
"tHAT'S MY CAR". Poor lady had reversed into my pride and joy sending it about 3 metres back into the empty space behind, damage looked like a cracked headlight, a dent in the bonnet and the wing had been pushed back so I took details and assured her it was all ok and that insurance will deal with everything as she was quite distraught, bless her. Seems she'd reversed out of a space too fast in a tight car park.

Took it in to get looked at then got a phone call from her insurance a few days later saying it's uneconomical to repair so they're giving me £2k (what I paid for the car) cash in lieu of repair and not write it off. Result. I sold that car and bought another Swift of the same age but a higher spec with a bigger engine. What's so startling about this story though is I'd only had the car a month and passed my test less than two months earlier, madness!

I also got a dashcam with parking mode after this event and have had no troubles since smile

Just the other day an older lady asked me to rescue her from the terrible mess she had gotten into reversing her Fiesta out of a space, I obliged and received a smiling thankyou and that I had done my good deed for the day. Better to ask a stranger for help than dinging a couple of other cars as well as your own. smile

Seen exactly that done in Madrid. Better a scuffed bumper than a smashed bumper.hehe

Bottom line is it's virtually impossible to prevent anybody mistreating your car but entirely possible to change how you deal with it when they do.

Could be. But you'll know as well as me you can't have everything.

Last time I took the Bargeasaurs to France I had "respectur 'l environment" and a sad face scrawled in the dust on the boot. Happily that was all.

It's surprising the amusement onlookers find from seeing an minor event happening, even a small one and also how much of a tit you feel having been observed. This happened pulling into a space outside a coffee shop in Le Man slightly scuffing my front bumper on a bollard, annoying but there you go.

My wife and I were living in Spain in 2008 and we bought a new Kia Sportage from a local dealer. When we asked to have parking sensors he thought we were mad, as in his words “just wind the window down and listen” laughlaugh
