Hi All,
Hoping you can help.
My E39 has decided now is the time to have a tiny hissy fit.
The wheel locking nut key is worn beyond use and I can’t get the locking nut off. I’d rather not damage them if possible.
Is it a BMW dealer order for the key, or is there a cheaper alternative? I can see the two digit number on the key.
Might be worth a visit to the dealer parts dept to say something like "I need to buy 4 wheel-nuts please, oh, and is there any chance, pretty please, that you can lend me your master set for 5 minutes please, to get the old lockers off? please please please, here's a packet of jammy dodgers..." Hoping you can help.

Drop-on the right guy and they might even do it for you!

I'm probably miles from you but I have a set of locking bolt removers (they do destroy the lockers without damaging the wheels) - personally unless you have a really rare and scene popular set of wheels I wouldn't bother with them - maybe worth asking on your local area PH section if anyone close has a setHoping you can help.

Thanks. An in person visit at lunch rather than phoning might get me further. I checked the other bolts (habit of calling them nuts) and they all look like they’ve seen better days. New set it is.
I did have a Google earlier and the dealer gave someone the key from the master. Let’s hope my local have the one I need still.

Thanks for the offer though. I’m over in Romford. Will try Harold Wood BMW and see how I get on. I thought I’d check here in case there was a known third party seller. Nothing fancy just nice clean wheels so best to keep them that way if I can. I try and stay away from kerbs. Excuse the rubbish photo. It’s the only one on my new phone.

Shame about the stick on Irmscher tat and fk knows what the reserve is, but it's a 600bhp Omega estate so I can forgive its sins.

Turbines are nice. I would bin the locking bolts. A waste of time and always cause issues when you least want them
This.Chance of locker causing you ball-ache > chance of normal wheels getting pinched.
And they hardly prevent theft anyway.
Someone suggested driving it to a Volvo dealer and asking them for assistance, but the tyre wouldn't hold air for more than 10mins, so that was a bit catch22.
Twas a happy ending as the locking wheel nut magically turned up a couple of weeks later before I'd paid a fortune to get them sorted, and it turned out the valve just needed tightening up (I didn't even know that was a thing, I now have a tool), but I'd replace them with normal studs/nuts on anything old or not sporting special alloys, the hassle just ain't worth it.

I recently had a 'mare when I had a slow that became a fast and I couldn't find the locking key on my newer Mk1 XC90 - as is typical the type of locking wheel nut put on Volvos from around 2010 are the only design that is impossible to source from anyone other than Volvo if you don't have the code.

Jag X350 wheel nut removal tools are made of chocolate, the nuts not much better the chrome covers break from the nut and they just spin, i had to use a Dremel, nut remover kit and hole cutter to drill off 3 of my locking wheel nuts and several other wheel nuts not long after I bought it, new nuts all around sorted that issue out, but it was a pain to do.Someone suggested driving it to a Volvo dealer and asking them for assistance, but the tyre wouldn't hold air for more than 10mins, so that was a bit catch22.

Ending in 2 hrs and currently not hitting reserve. MoT history looks surprisingly clean
