Slightly off topic but I'd like to ask about the roof box. Does it make much noise and what brand/model is it if you know?
Just to shed an opinion on this, we have a Kamei 510 roofbox that goes on the 9-5 Aero etsate for holidays and I honestly only really hear it when it is windy.Other than that, I was shocked how quiet it was
I got one partly for the volume, but mainly for the length for windsurfing kit.
It's also been great fir camping
Sorry to hear that you are bare-less, CDG, although I suspect, in reality, the new 3er will be an extremely good car. I personally think it looks good, and your colour combo is nice.
Heads up display is indeed very good, wish I had it!
Are we still having to wait to hear what has happened to both of these cars? I must admit, I didn't know the SL was going too!

Consensus is naturally (and rightly) that a 3-er (ugh, soz) isn't a barge, but that it does have an ugly face.
In slight mitigation, it is in (so-called) Luxury trim and old-man spec. No tints, comfort settings and with brown interior (which is darker than it looks here, and is closer to the door trim than the seat pic).
Too early and too wet to make much of a judgement, but already a big shout-out for Head Up Display, which has already fallen into the category of 'How have I ever managed without this...?'
Nice, I like the colour combination, most of the UK cars I have seen are M Sport variants, brown seats looks great, a nice change from black. In slight mitigation, it is in (so-called) Luxury trim and old-man spec. I drove the Alpina G21 B3 & D3 a few weeks ago, both had HUD. I was always sceptical as my previous experience of HUD was on much older vehicles, but I would definitely tick the box when ordering.

To me, the interior is sumptuous. I'd say Luxury all day - the brown leather is lovely. Enjoy the falling in love, as I am sure you will. That particular set up is Whispbars through bars with a a Thule Motion 800 roof box. I bought it at least 7 years ago. I'm not sure you can buy that set up anymore, but I like it. According to a review I've found this evening, the roof box didn't get great reviews!
Anyway it's not a 800 litre box, it's relatively long and thin. It's probably is a 2/3rd width one. The idea for me, was that if I push it over to one side, you could also have a bike on the bars too.
The bars are very similar to the Thule aerobars but were supposed to be slightly quieter
As package it works well for me and is very quiet. The car came with some cheapo square roof bars on and got a bit whistly over 80mph. I had that set up going over 90 with little extra noise or issue

Indeed it does..... Anyway, have you ever shared details of the E55 on these pages Mr mondayo. I have them as an alert on AT but seem few and far between recently.
I talk about it from time to time, but as it's definitely not in thread budget (an appreciating classic maybe?) I don't go on about it much.bolidemichael said:
Rather idiotically, I am thinking that the E55 must be surplus to requirements if this has already assumed family duties..?
The idiotic comment was with tongue firmly in cheek.I pretty much need an estate for every journey, even HQ's car is a Fabia estate.
Therefore it's unlikely I'll get rid of the E55. The 320CDI is a very capable car but it doesn't have the specialness of the E55, which for me, is still hilariously fast and just a very nice to be.
The serve similar yet different purposes, plus it's nice having a spare car. If they made a CLK with my engine in, I'd probably be tempted by that, but I don't think they did. And to get a 63 would take some serious investment.

You can still get whispbars but the company is called yakima now. I've had mine for 10 years and they have been great, though they do whistle a bit on the current saab 9-3, but I suspect it's due to the little cover door thingies on the car being hinged and still attached According to a review I've found this evening, the roof box didn't get great reviews!

I notice everyone is being very polite and not mentioning the front end of CdG's new motor. Interior is nice.
My advice on roof boxes is to buy a secondhand one - most get used once or twice a year and then get hidden away in a garage or shed, but you can save a fortune buying a used one.
