Good god what a waste any hgv driving school will do you an hours tasteter (is that a word?) for probably half the price.
Totally agree. Many HGV and PSV driving schools operate from large yards/business estates as they want the newbies to be accustomed to the vehicle before letting them out on the road. A one hour taster session with them driving around the yard is far better value for money. Those red letter HGV/bus driving companies charge £60-£80 for 15 minutes! You'll find depending on the vehicle, location and what introductory offers they have that £80-£150 will get you a full hour with a driving school.

I'm glad you could spell taster but you've probably not just had a mainly liquid lunch on a sun lounger, And your right a full hour with a driving school on real roads would be a real experience for people who've just done cars especially if they do some reversing in the yard

I'm quietly looking at tip run/dog transport wagons. On the one hand, the Jeep should be cheerful, festooned with cup holders and with all the heart and soul of an airport departure lounge. On the other hand, the Range Rover should be luxurious and capacious, but with the running costs of a small oil rig and the reliability of a chocolate teapot.

Probably a grand too much but looks clean and if the miles/story play out, could be a nice car. You can count on one hand the amount of e38s on sale that have not been messed with in some way or other.
In this market and with other examples not as good as that, that have sold recently; I'd personally pay c£3500 for that...

It looks like it's been very well looked after and a good check over of the bodywork (sills, rear arches, inner arches, boot lid and rear valance etc); if it's all sound, it's good to go!

Personally I'd want to find a sent of 18" Style 32s for it; keep the smaller alloys for winter

It's a good looking machine!
No sunroof and nice colour.

Do we think the fuel tank is likely be to OK?

I stopped reading at the end of the first paragraph and mention of Macron. I think I've exceeded my BS tolerance threshold for the day after reading that stuff about the grille on the R129 280 giving it an 'imposing presence'. Excrement in my family and work life at the moment probably aren't helping my tolerance of waffling BS in car adverts.
I skim-read; makes life easier wink

But agree; fuel tank needs to be checked as well as the fuel filler connection etc

Agreed - I am meant to be inheriting my dad's Jeep Patriot when I get my current fleet rationalised. It's the VW 2.0TDi diesel version and you feel like you are sitting much lower down than in our XC90, which is disappointing. The throttle pedal feels like there is a large rubber band somewhere between the pedal and the engine. It does not feel like a large car inside - the rear seats are very upright, the boot is medium sized. Without having one, my guess is it is VW Tiguan sized.

Meant to be very good off-road - not tried it other than in the snow on-road, but the plastics are very, er plasticy, including the steering wheel, though it is the basic model and not the leather one which I think is the Limited - saying that, the stereo is good.

We have a Dodge Caliber as our shed / shopping car - it's pretty much mechanically identical to the Patriot. The plastics are indeed horrible, and I totally agree about the stereo being good, particularly for a cheaper car. It's a lot better than the standard one you get in a 3 series, for example.

Our one takes a huge amount of abuse and has only ever had one real problem - the AC evaporator behind the dash failed and needed to be replaced, which is a dash-out job.

Even with 4x4, it's not an off roader as the ground clearance, although better than a normal car, won't allow you to tackle much more than a few dirt tracks.

Fancy going old school?

Strange way to sell a car though, untaxed since May and 9 weeks ago it was more and in Brighton (it also appears to have a few advisories on the MoT eek)

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/29184065...
I took one look at that and remembered trying to convince my Dad to get one as his company car (think he ended up with an early Rover 800 saloon, single point injection instead of the multipoint efi, which was a bit of a downer after the Renault 25 2.2 GTX)

I miss those cars, that Velour, the crazy, so modern Led clock and Tacometer.

Anyway, I thought there must be a German word, which would be very useful hereabouts, to describe the feeling of nostaligia for an old car (owned by one's father, or perhaps uncle) that one desires to own, but knows would be disappointing and costly in the long run.

So, I decide to have a crack building that word ( none of these appear in dictionaries) And the I remembered I am married to a German lady.

When I explained what I wanted to do , she looked at me like I was mad, asked me to repeat myself and said

"I'm going to Bed"
(Obviously, for the sake of the story, it would have been better if she had said "Gott im Himmell, Du sprechsts immer nur ganz scheisse", but she didn't, sadly)

So I'll have to do it myself.- we'll have to refine this obviously - I've put in Capitals to show the separate words.

UnterschiedlosVaterAlterAutoLustTrachtenKrankheit

So, in English it might look a bit like this;

Undescrimitable/Father/Old/Car/love/aspiration/sickness

Anyway, I severely wish my father had got an Audi100cc avant as a company car and seeing that fills me with, as much as an Englishman can, Unterschiedlosvateralterautolusttrachtenkrankheit

Whilst I know that German scholars might quibble with some elements of the word I have constructed, those of you with just a love for the Renault 25 GTX & Audi 100cc, might quivver with emotion when you see one of these wonders of the natural world and mutter, under your breath..

"Sehr, Immer,Unterschiedlosvateralterautolusttrachtenkrankheit"
Simply brilliant!
I, for ein, am pleased to have BenjiA's exploratory German on this thread. I love their compound phrases and shall be tapping him up for some more curious combos.

L322 beards, is a nearly 200k miles TD6 a good idea or not. Specifically this one

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164973946254?_trkparms=...

Assuming the wind deflectors can be removed and a new gearbox is a good thing then what could possibly go wrong etc.

I don’t need it. I like Jags, I have about 10 of them, and I’ve recently bought a W124 Estate which I am going to use as my “wagon”,

OK wise guys, who is it?
