Making a change for Y reg diesel Mondeos for £8k and other such fare of the last few weeks

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202110268...

80k miles, Collection Spec with the nice leather and good looking wheels, it's the later engine with 245bhp, and a manual gearbox. £2k is a decent price for that, and the MOT advisories suggest a set of discs and pads and maybe a couple of bushes should get it up to scratch.

I like these a lot. Total disconnect between engine output and chassis competence.

Gold E430 for mid(ish) thread money.
Is it just me or is that an utterly dreadful advert?
Agreed, it's a terrible advert and I imagine the reality of going to view might be even worse.

I thought it might be appreciated here
That is not standard, is it? Can't tell exactly what it's based in..... E23? E9?!
It's an E3 that's been converted.

Quite lovely.
Crayford did an estate version ... must be one of the rarest cars on our roads.

Many years ago I bottled buying an immaculate E3 saloon at auction when the bidding got to £2k ...

Ad says "If you're looking for a cherished, low mileage, quality W210 E-Class, then read on."

I assume they meant "run away" rather than "read on"?

How are you defining the word "appreciated", exactly?

Good news; new job.

Bad news; can’t drive my QP 20k pa.

I need a new car.

Auto, comfy, cheap, reliable, not look rubbish.
Depending on your definition of rubbish (I have a Bangle 7 so my opinion don’t count), you could do worse than the v6 Mondeo that Macron posted t’other day:

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202107074...

Swap the (corroded) fancy wheels for a set of 16” off a zetec model & it’d be a nice way to while away the miles.

I know this might be considered heretical but for 20k miles a year you could do worse than a soot chucker, they're excellent motorway cars and I assume they're going to be the sort of miles that are just as tedious in a supercharged V8 or a 1.6tdi?

I'd be thinking S320d / S350d thoughts or a 730d.

ETA - If you're ok with an E65 a 95k 2008 730d SE has a CAP clean price of £3,775 so I'd expect to pay not much more than that for a private one. You can get into a 2010 F01 for £7k. A 57 plate S320d on 105k has a CAP clean price of £3,400 so you'd hope to bag a nice clean private one for £4k.

Very handsome. So much car for the money too.
