You can tell who it's aimed at as the release shots are of a white car - so the hot countries then, not the EU and UK.
Yep I guess yummy mummies were on team land rover when that was signed off ,so it looks good for about 30 years in a desert, not 3 years outside the school gate on PCP hehe

Yes please, really like that. Does exactly what it says on the tin in an anti style manner. It's not a soft SUV, it's a proper off roader that will go to the moon and back. Comparing apples and oranges here perhaps but I would have that as an ownership proposition over any Range Rover.

Looks like the UN spec entry model is less Lexus bling...

Hmmm...that one on the right looks MUCH better. Anyway, you've just got to laugh at the people criticising the Land Cruiser for it's looks, then walking out to their horrendous German soft-roaders. hehe I mean, at least the LC will have substance.

The weird thing is that the Range Rover is probably a lot more capable off-road.

What makes you think a Range Rover is better off road? (apart from Land Rover marketing)

I’ve seen one of these. Bloke who owns it has imported it from Japan. It’s the V8, in black, and it’s…. err….quite imposing. Has to be the largest grill i’ve seen on any vehicle.

What makes you think it isn’t (apart from internet hearsay)?

Considering the Land Cruiser in question has only just been announced, I thought it was quite a bold statement to make!

Regardless, in the real world, away from contrived off road experience centres and test facilities, the limitations of both vehicles will be whatever tyres are fitted.

Neither will be the best examples in their field for technical offroading, but I know which one I would want for any sort of off-grid over-landing.

If all you see is that then that's strange.

If you go online you can see many, many videos of both new and old LC being used in extreme off road situations. You can't find any new version RR's being used in the same way. And it's not that value related because the new LC's are expensive and similar to some RR.

I see an awful lot of LC here in Oz that are being used for proper offroading. Never see an RR in the same way.

The only LR product you see here used for any offroading are old school Defenders.

Given Australia is the off road capital of the world is put some credence in the fact LC are the prevalent vehicle for everyday, everywhere use.

Where do you draw the line between utilitarian and ugly? (All a bit subjective.) It appeals to me , I like boxy off roaders _ G Wagen, anyone?_I would want less chrome, and more body coloured trim II also like the new Defender.

Doubt it was a 300. Only just released and there are not any V8 versions.

Hopefully it really will have front and rear locking diffs as some reviews have said. They were one of the many plus points of the 80 series. Lost count of the number of "the best 4x4xfar" vehicles I recovered with my trusty Toyota.

Probably one of these, the Lexus version

Once. Maybe. The Toyota would always get you home. Which is why I said as an ownership proposition. Range Rover is better looking, bound to drive better, has better image for those who need that crutch. But if I was spending my own money? Toyota every time.

Probably true (in terms of technical offroading) - but in terms of practical offroading, this will be more reliable/ cheaper to run. My FIL had a 1995 TD Amazon, and for exploring off track Indonesia it was great. Was an inverse Tardis though - the gubbins took up so much space that the interior felt small for such a massive car. When he died, a grandson inherited it, and it is still going strong.

I’ve had both, although earlier models and I’d argue there isn’t much in it, I’d doubt there would be a lot in it between the new ones either, main things would be the driver and the tyres.

Again I can’t speak for the latest models but on the ones I’ve owned where the Toyota really beat the Range Rover hands down is reliability-it just didn’t go wrong, and when you needed to do maintenance it was incredibly well thought out and easy to work on.
Where the Range Rover beat the Toyota hands down was the interior and how it drove day to day plus is far better performance wise.
I’d say the Range Rover is the nicer car but the Toyota is the better car.
Like both a lot and couldn’t afford a new one of either but if someone gave me one for free I’d pick the Toyota every time.
