RE: Neverending two-car story | PH Footnote
Discussion
I wouldn’t say that we have the ‘perfect’ two car garage, but I think we’re having a pretty good go:
Discovery Sport - yes so it’s a half-fat Discovery, but it does what we need: family car, tow car and occasional off-road duty.
Maserati GranTurismo Sport - my toy, recently purchased and absolutely under its spell.

I had a great one:
Aston Martin Vanquish S Ultimate
Range Rover L405 PHEV
Covered all the bases. Fast GT, Limo, Dog wagon, off-roader, shooting brake.
However I became too precious about the Aston. I worried about putting miles on it. I’ve sold it. The Rangie probably needs a refresh too.
Therefore I’m on the hunt for a new two car garage.
Requirements are above. Ideally the GT is a convertible. The off-roader needs to be big enough to carry two golden retrievers (load space is not normally a problem but height is - their heads are usually where the rear tailgate slopes down, so something like a Cayenne is too cramped). It also needs to go off-road (ankle deep mud/ruts, moorland tracks) so proper credentials. It also needs to be luxurious and competent on road as it will shuttle long distances (Devon to Northumberland). It won’t do mega miles so a petrol V8 is preferred.

GR86 & 330D touring.
Now, that is a two car garage that dovetails with the all-bases/does what a single car can't dichotomy. However, I don't think it's optimum, the 3-series could definitely be more refined, spacious, have better seats - and all that good stuff that a step or two upmarket would provide. Maybe an E350d (estate) would be closer to ideal.
