Why are they called number plates when the quite clearly have letters on them as well silly
The plates were getting a bit big when they registered the gazzillionth car with numbers only, so they had to improvise.

Well it is an individually identifying plate that contains numbers, but you could call it a registration plate if you like. smile

I wonder if people got all upset about that number plate when it 1st came out?!
4x posts from you on this one number plate thread alone insisting that 'Other people' are obsessed over THEIR opinion of number plates.

Are you sure you don't just have an issue with other people not liking the same things as you?
Ooh I've got a stalker, how nice.
Nothing so sinister. I read a lot of threads without commenting and certain names stand out when the behaviour is abnormal.

These are due to become illegal come September. Well if they have another colour under the black I believe. I have a mate who works in traffic and has these hideous plates and is moaning because he’s been told to change them.

It also means that 3D gel plates are also up for the chop too.

Its interesting because a lot of sites say 4D and gel plates (if all black) are still legal under the new BS

they will be legal ....

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/569318?re...

"The new British Standard for retroreflective number plates does not state that number plates with raised characters, including 3D gel and 4D number plates, will not be permitted.

It is a requirement under the current British Standard that the entire surface of the characters of the registration number must be black. This also includes all sides of the characters; the use of different coloured or clear sides is not permitted."

An incredibly popular one. I can't believe the speed with which these have gone from zero to everywhere. Even seeing them on some commercial vehicles (pickups, rather than HGVs).

They are nothing more than that, and such things of course only appeal to the shallow and vacuous who dedicate their lives to slavishly following the latest trend so they can compete and keep up and be equally on-trend and in style with all their oh so trendy and stylish friends and neighbours.
I like them. But I guess I shall have to settle for being deemed shallow and vacuous by the PH cognoscenti. I hadn't bothered seriously looking into getting some, but now I believe I will.

For some of these types but also on the family cars of people with zero taste: jag 4 x 4's, X5's, anything. Mad!

I'm not a fan. I think they look a bit rubbish.

They also cause problems at the Tyne Tunnel; their cameras don't read them.

Twice I've ended up stuck behind someone with these plates when the barrier won't lift.

Had the pleasure of seeing a 3-in-1 shoot past last night on the back of a white Audi estate: shortened, tinted and 4D.

Textbook stuff.

One way to instantly de-value any car in my opinion.

They seem to be a popular choice with turds driving BMW's and Audi's
Usually accompanied by side window deflectors.

They're actually quite useful!

They came with a car that I bought before you ask.

4D number plates, 3D plates, gel plates, carbon plates, pressed plates, ENG flag plates, GB plates, plates with any kind of garnish on them, plates that have captions, cringe plates, plates with screw heads in them to make them appear to read something different.. all awful.

But I’ll go ahead and light the fire here.

I don’t care what people do with their cars/lives and I say let them do what they want, and if their car fails an MOT, well it’s not my problem.
I really don’t understand why people start frothing at the mouth and get so pedantic about something so minor
