Blimey.

I’m glad Pistonheads don’t run pubs, otherwise there would be blood and teeth on the floor every night.

Anyway for what it’s worth, in 8 years of ownership I have to replace the AC condenser in addition to routine servicing and that’s it.
[Joke]Been going that way a while. Pistonhates, where being miffed matters.....[/Joke]

Just in case someone gets incensed it was a jest.....

I avoid any advert or dealer that uses only capital letters, this approach seems to have stood me in good stead over the years. Always feels like a bad sign.

Agreed. It might also help if the dealer could accurately summarise the spec of the car. It appears to have 19’’ wheels fitted, not 18’’s, as described.

I had one around 5 years ago and the only issue I had was a bonnet sensor, £20 fix. Monster of an engine enjoyable on start up, enjoyable when pottering and enjoyable when on it it’s a master piece! Makes a great daily drive minus the MPG, I averaged 12 on my short journeys to work/ the shops and 29 on the long slog up to the in-laws in Inverness.

Na the landlord would've thrown them out to save them from themselves wink

What instantly puts me off is the number plate on the dash. Clearly been trying to out-run the Feds on several occasions. Gangsta spec cars will have been run ragged and skipped on basic care. Not for me, thanks. I’d take one that’s been pampered by someone who cared for it though.

Alloys can come like that from the factory, but an easy job to get them resprayed in brilliant silver.

Word of warning - use the parking brake otherwise they corrode and replacements are £600ish at a local specialist (go on, ask me how I know).

Front brakes £700ish.

I was impressed at the change in driving manners following a gearbox service. A lot less dull witted in town driving.

All in all - find a good one, spend the money and enjoy. I adore mine. Even with the 19" wheels on it.
Good advice re handbrake. Love my wagon. Seems we have similar taste. Have a 4.3 Str8six Tuscan. Brakes are reasonable (way cheaper thatn my previous insignia VXR). And yes gearbox oil change is a must.

Nice pair of cars. I do wish a different colour than black was available when I was buying, but there we go...

Great cars but It’s not that special really is it? Fast version of a mass produced saloon?

I’d call the days of 5 grand E36 M3’s and 8k 911sc’s cheap.
Then we will have to agree, to disagree. I think all my cars are special in their own way - the Clio, the TVR and my Merc.

A few corrections in your post, if I may?

1. The issues that *I* claim? Literally the first point you quoted me on was that it was reported by someone else - "Read up on Tasos Machatos (United Arab Emirates) for starters."

2. Where did I say it would happen to "every" 6.2?

That's just you being defensive and putting words into someone else's mouth to twist what was said, to ease your own conscience.

Fine, your car may not have grenaded (yet). Bully for you. But even someone parochial will understand that over time parts degrade. At some point, even the most bulletproof car will need attention, and at this point, the MB exorbitant pricing structure will come into effect. At that point, you will have to shell out for big MB bills.
1) Reported by someone else, so your opinion is formed by someone else's experience & you're assuming that it's true for most. As in your words they're POS.

2) You implied they were POS (which would mean the majority) with inherent issues & even in your statement you added "Yet" implying that i'm lucky to have got this far without issue.

I'm not seeing lots 63 AMG's with blown engines in the same way you see a fair few N/A M Cars.

No defense here nor is it needed lots of happy owners on here, the proof is in the pudding.

You're right all cars will have failure at some point but you didn't say that.

My car is 10+ years old & rolling along just fine, maintenance is the key to any car lasting, as for parts pricing I can tell you for a fact parts are cheaper on my AMG compared to an IS-F & by the same token the IS-F you're lauding will suffer the same issues as the 6.2 going by your logic.

The labour rate is cheaper is at Lexus main dealers but the parts for their 5.0 V8 aren't cheap not that either goes through lots of parts as they're well built N/A engines

Anyway have a good day keep doing your research & ignoring many happy owners.

I'll just keep driving mine wink
Again, a few corrections if I may?

1. "You're right all cars will have failure at some point but you didn't say that."

Which is funny, because I said:

"At some point, even the most bulletproof car will need attention"

2. I'm not "implying" anything. I was asked what issues exist with these cars, and I pointed out the experience of someone who regularly inspects them. That's not my "opinion", and that's not something I'm "implying". If you have a problem with what the individual in question has found, I suggest maybe you take his findings up with him.

I’ve had my 2014 Estate coming up for a year now, and I absolutely love it. It’s the only car I’ve ever owned where I have no desire to change anything about it. It’s completely standard.

These are going through the undesirable owners stage, with some questionable modifications being carried out, the car in question being a prime example. This thankfully seems more prevalent for coupes and saloons in my experience.

In the year I’ve had mine, I’ve refurbished the wheels back to factory spec, fitted two rear tyres, replaced a cam cover and had it serviced.

I like the fact mine is very nondescript wearing the 18” wheels and silver in colour. It certainly doesn’t stand out.

Best to not think about that and just enjoy the experience!

Have a 507 estate. Does everything I need it to and more. Not had any scary bills but the warranty has had a workout. Can't fault the Mercedes extended warranty, had a seized offside front caliper and Mercedes replaced both fronts under warranty at I'm told £5.5k a side. On the flip side if I didn't have the warranty, the work would've been done at an independent and the caliper would've been refurbed rather than both replaced.

The gearbox isn't the best compared to a modern dual clutch, but put it in Sport+, wind the windows down and you'll forget all about it.

That’s bloody lovely. Aberdeen car too. I’m sure this was for sale at some point last year?
