Did I really sit in my arm chair and wait too long?!!
In short, yes you did. Covid has done crazy things to used car prices across the board, and the supply of cheap V8s is drying up as manufacturers switch to turbo sixes. We've had V8s as Shed Of The Week in the past, but the most recent one I can see is a rusty W210 Merc featured in 2018.

can get a Jag V8, BMW V8 or an old AMG V8 for 3 or 4K still if you look
But be aware this is the bottom end of the market and you will need to be handy with the spanners (and/or a welder) if buying at this price level.Depends on the car, but that's a fair comment for classics, certainly.
I like the SD1, but I would love a Triumph Stag, with either engine.

Buying a V8 shouldn't be about performance, it should be about the torque and the sound. If it's fast as well, that is just gravy baby.

Very much soIf you want a new V8 with warranty for under 3k it won’t happen so you’ll need to
A/ get your hands dirty when things break
B/ pay lots to someone else to get their hands dirty when things break
There are still a fair few enthusiasts on here that can do that though and aren’t just new prestige badge buyers
There’s plenty of stuff on EBay for a few grand etc …..but as they say ….you can take a horse to water……

In the same boat. Never previously been able to consider owning a v8 and I would still be stretching now but I’m determined to have one while I still can. Not really keen on the ls400,
7 series, type cars. That leaves older jags, a possibility. The only ones that actually get me excited though are Monaro’s and maybe an S5. Looking at most of 10 grand to get Into either of them. Not many options available now for anyone on a budget sadly.

For a great V8 Experience you could do far worse the Rover SD1 3500.
It’s everything thankfully that the Rover 75 isn’t. For a car launched in 1976 it was so ahead of the time as regards styling and refinement.
What, they are nice but what's wrong with a 75 ?It’s everything thankfully that the Rover 75 isn’t. For a car launched in 1976 it was so ahead of the time as regards styling and refinement.
Its a better car in every way objectively, and you can get a V8, that isnt that fast with 260 bhp, but its still got 120 bhp on a V8 SD1.
Only one I would have is a Vitesse.
They are still out there and well worth getting hold of. These mid 90s onwards compact quad cam NASP V8s with VVT are absolutely great engines to use; tractable, high revving, smooth, great sounding, and even capable of decent economy on a run (particularly the ones with modern 6+ gear automatics or manual gearboxes). Enough power without being silly too, so you can stretch their legs on the roads.
