I'd have liked to have been a passenger too!
Really?

I did a 8:35 lap in a Corvette. With my hands in my lap and I enjoyed it very much. I needed a cuppa tea and 30 mins in the shade after a double throw up though... Only 1.38 G but still... Once you're back on planet earth it's kinda hard. I wonder how navigators in rally cars keep up.
I absolutely *hate* being a passenger, in any car, let alone one being driven that quickly. I can think of few things worse than a passenger ride doing a 'ring record attempt.

My racecar tops out at 2G and I can do that all day, but sit in an MX5 next to one of my various mates who think they can drive, but can't - and i fall to pieces, and feel nauseous for an hour or two.

Rally navigators i consequently consider the most uniquely incredibly humans in the world smile

Out of interest, is there such a thing as a F1 car time around the ring from when they last raced there?

Or has the curcuit / timing points changed too much since then?
The closest you'll get is probably the 919 Evo lap (5m19s)

It was a similar speed to an F1 car around Spa, though I don't know how similar the times would be at the ring.

Tuner car. Impressive time, but how is that any different from taking something and handing it to a tuner to modify? You could come back with literally anything.

It may well be the fastest time recorded but does anybody care and do people really buy a very modified track car because of this time set by a professional 'ring specialist? It isnt so newsworthy when you look at the cost of the car and the very special tyres plus brakes and weight saving that has gone on. Meh!
Just spend one hour at the 'Ring as a spectator........... then you'll see that yes: a LOT of people care, and a LOT of people buy/own very modified cars so as to get the best time they can at this track.

Bellend302 sounds like a bit of a Porsche hater to me.

I care, it's an amazing time, in an amazing car.

Not a tuner. Manthey has been Porsche’s racing arm for a long time now and also owned by Porsche.

6:43.3 in a road car is nothing short of incredible. Not disputing cost, special equipment and pro driver, but objectively that's pretty much race-car fast. Well done to team and driver!
Hardly a road car.

They can be enjoyed on the road, there is sufficient suspension travel to soak up common potholes. The Manthey KW suspension has high speed damping dialled down to soak up sharper impacts, and customers have said the kit is no less comfortable than the standard RS. Plus the front axle lift is preserved. There are plenty of videos of the GT2 RS MR being driven on the road around Europe, including bumpy ones.

Be good to dissipate some of the Nring focus and consider the IOM TT circuit as a proving ground.

How do you imagine that would work then? Are you going to shut the IOM year round or give manufacturers a day a year tacked on to the TT?

Another fast car around a track. World keeps turning.

I hope I'm not getting too old, but I am left disinterested by this never ending quest that very few people are genuinely interested in.

Now, a Porsche costing £30k, a sub 5 second sprint weighing 1200kg - I would listen.

Nope. Way too much for the road. Won’t even be interesting sub 120 mph

I'm not trying to say it's an excellent performance road car. I'm saying that it can be enjoyed on the road. An A110, simple Caterham etc. are better performance road cars of course, but this is an esoteric road-legal track car. The fact that it has a smaller footprint than most modern saloon cars, has a turning circle of a Mini, can be driven on bumpy B-roads, has front axle lift and all the common creature comforts of a GT car, is commendable. If you have the opportunity, go to APEX Nurburgring and ask for a passenger ride on the road. I'm fortunate enough to have one, albeit without the MR kit, and I do track it hard.

A Porsche for less than a Golf? I'm 49: yes, you're too old.
