Will be for a school prom, I suddenly get messages from people I hardly know asking if I can do them a favour.
I gave the daughter of a good friend a lift to her prom in my bright orange Exige V6. I tried not to look as she struggled over the sill in her clingy dress and high heels but the crowd of classmates watching her thought it was great fun A long time ago, i PM'd a guy on here as we were both going to the same Sunday Service. He agreed to meet me at a services on route so I could surprise my girlfriend. She got to arrive at Silverstone in a Diablo, which to this day is still her lottery win car.
Would i have asked if we weren't part of PH and going to the same event? no
Would i ask to drive it? hell no
Adrian, if you're reading this thanks again, shes now the wife!

Just seen this in our local ‘grumbled’ facebook page
‘If you don’t ask, you don’t get…
This seems to be the philosophy on a lot of FB groups at the moment. ‘If you don’t ask, you don’t get…
Things people wouldn't dream of having the cheek to ask for in person, they have no qualms about behind the relative anonymity of FB.
"Has anyone got a TV/Phone/Washing Machine/Porsche they no longer need?"
This is often preceeded or followed up with "I'm a single mum"

Intrigued by their comprehension of what ‘fully comp’ actually means, unless they have a fancy whizzo bolt on traders policy.
It's a bit odd from someone who can't be that old, but FIL insisted my wife could drive his car because it was coverd fully comp. He got quite annoyed when she refused and afterwards called his insurance company and was a bit gobsmacked when they said she couldn't, although they did confuse the situation somewhat by saying it would be OK in an emergency.I changed the insurance on her car so she became policyholder to at least giver her the safety net of DOC cover.
But third part cover on driving other cars, is certainly not a given for a FC policy holder nowadays.
On the subject of ridiculous requests on FB, I once saw somebody asking if anybody could give them a set of valve covers for their car, as the air was leaking out of the Tyres. Oh and by the way would they mind delivering them as my car has a flat Tyre!!

Might come and go in waves but I remember choosy beggars online being a thing years ago. When I first signed up to Freecycle, 2005 or so, I noticed that people were posting variations of "WANTED: TV. Must be a plasma screen, 40" or larger". Bearing in mind that such a TV was around £2k at the time, and most people still had a 32" or smaller CRT as their main TV, it seemed a bit optimistic to say the least.Things people wouldn't dream of having the cheek to ask for in person, they have no qualms about behind the relative anonymity of FB.

Driving professionally for 10 years, at 24?
So race driver, getaway driver or American from an incredibly rural state?
Also not many insurers provide 3rd party DOC cover at that age, I couldn't get it until 25 and wasn't fully comp on other cars until 30 with a trade policy.

Three of us were collected from our Christmas night out by a colleague's partner who had a puncture. Cue a 25mph drive out to the sticks where we all live and subsequently driving on the rim. Him- we'll drop it at yours and I'll take your car! He lives up a farm track and has a crazy neighbour who had already Nitromors-ed his car. I politely declined and called them a taxi.

Facebook really does lower the general population's ability to think if something is a good idea to ask out loud on a public platform.
This is like the new version of "my child has <unfortunate life situation> can someone drive them to the prom in a Ferrari please. (but not the California, thats not a proper Ferrari really is it). "
