4 people in a car, none of whom can change a wheel; what are the odds?
Three of whom were the worse for wear and all of whom had asked him to pull over and change the wheel. Once the sound of rim on road made an appearance the driver pulled over in the pissing rain in (barely) a farm access track only to find an empty spare wheel well. 330d, no idea if these usually come with a spare. Did have a foot pump though which he rather pointlessly used in an attempt to inflate the now smoking ruin of a tyre - then nearly drove off with it still connected to the the valve! "I'll take yours" ahem, I think not.
PS The crazy neighbour - we call him Foghorn Leghorn - subsequently liberally sprayed more Nitromors on the 330d AND the car of another colleague who was house sitting for the week!
rofl Fair enough!

But third part cover on driving other cars, is certainly not a given for a FC policy holder nowadays.
Most over 25's policies have it, but of course you should check. Her's does.
Nooo, it’s far from common now. Used to be nearly automatic, less so now. I’ve stopped quite a few people who assumed and who were driving uninsured. A big kick in the teeth.

Intrigued by their comprehension of what ‘fully comp’ actually means, unless they have a fancy whizzo bolt on traders policy.
He probably thinks he has comprehensive insurance cover until he crashes your nice car then realised he has TP cover at best to drive it.
There is a slim chance they will be insured fully comp. I paid about £30 to upgrade my any bike cover (included in my bike policy) from TP to FC.

I didn't know it was even an option until they offered it to me on renewal, seemed like a bargain. I'd assume some insurers offer this for cars too.
Bikes are a different kettle of fish and terms seem far more flexible!

The Government asked insurers to remove DOC some years ago - some did but most put it back for exactly the reason you state, and they didn’t want to be complicit in ‘criminalising’ policyholders.

It’s always been on our LV policies but daughter had to ask for it on her Aviva policy when she turned 25 - no charge for it.

I was quite surprised being relatively old that it was about 60/40 on the recent quote I ran that it would be included!

DOC cover used to always be included, but isn't necessarily these days.

But in my 40+ years it has always been Third Party only on the policies I've had! I wouldn't want to drive a car like the OPs with that level of cover.

Either get added to his policy, or add the car to your own policy as a temporary additional vehicle - assuming you have an insurer who will do that.

Like everyone else I’d not lend my car out to a stranger, but if someone in my town wanted to be dropped at something special with me driving (their own wedding, for example) I’d be happy to help out.

It just seems like a nice thing to do, and makes someone really happy for an hour of my time on a weekend.
