Want one. Looks superb, will drive better than it looks.

A return to form from BMW, not before time.

Not much to love with this horror show but at least its not the bring-your-own-bucket-and-mop nastiness of their recent grilles we have seen though ( probably fits well in this era of Cardi B and the likes mind ).

Reminds me how contentious the mk3 octavia FL headlights were, they have taken that "style" and pushed it to 11 and its not a good thing problem mostly at the front, its all a bit Dr Who isn't it ?

The rest is reasonable other than the "ironing space/ picnic place" bonnet flat.
Why. Its like someone went "nah, we ran out of curves, this bit gonna have to be flat". Oh and the side lower section actually look like quick paint editing by a 5 year old. It doesn't look symmetrical OR natural.

Like the fact that the grill isn't exagirated like every other new BMW. But there is no excuse for the styling. My God, that back end is horrendous for a BMW.............Is there a new Chef in the kitchen that has bluffed their CV?...that is not good at all!!!

Silhouette pleasing enough but details in the design are equally garish and vile. Rear ended looks like a droopy flabby mess imo. BMW design language used to be something to admire and enjoy

Bmw manuals were never considered great. In fact they’ve always been rubbery, imprecise and notchy (but not in the good sense) and not very pleasant, and the offset position of the clutch means it isn’t very comfortable either. Not to mention the CDV just takes away any shift feel anyway.

The ZF8 has always been the more involving.
Despite being a die-hard 3 pedal fanboy, having experienced both I think I have to agree with this. Why wife never warmed to BMW offset clutch and notchiness of shift action

I've twigged what it is that's been bugging me about it - it looks like a Chinese knock-off version of a real BMW. You know the ones, where they design it to look similar and then call it something like a Landwind or something.

And it looks like it's melted.

I recall the blanket TV news coverage and front page stories about those Octavia headlights. I fear this new BMW will be the same.

More involving no...overall better...then definitely yes.

Given the choice between the ZF8 or the manual I had in my Z4M...I'd take the auto all day everyday(even though I hate to say it to be fair).

BMW are about as good at manual gearboxes...as they are at making a sports car. They are ste at it sadly! hehe

They've really only ever made one proper sports car. Rest are just various forms of a saloon with go faster bits. biggrin

True! biggrin

It has always amazed me how BMW have always nailed their saloons...yet they always manage to balls it up when they try to make a sports car though(or at least something that resembles a sports car).

How very true. The chassis go faster bits are brilliant in particular. I am amazed how good the M2 is on track from such a modest origin. Having said that at least the fundamentals are (were) there: decent balance, a lot of the weight behind the front axle, LSD, good brakes etc... Many "proper" sports cars can't even achieve all of that.

But can we get back on topic and focus on looks please as those are quite clearly an objective way of judging a car. wink

For me its about engagement - one of the best cars I have driven was a 335d x drive estate. Brilliant thing, just point and squirt and it sorts it all out - hugely capable and flatters my not especially brilliant driving by always being in the right gear at the right time. Hugely clever gearbox and impressive as hell and I would only ever consider an auto for a car like that.

So of course my M2 is manual - it makes me work for it, I have to think more and I often don't get it right, but when I occasionally do? I feel brilliant!

(I have the luxury of a couple of cars, if I only had one? Maybe that would change my decision)

I currently have a 3 pedal manual, a 2 pedal DCT and a 2 pedal auto, and it is nice to switch between them and they all have strengths and weaknesses I think.

If I only had 1 car though I would definitely go for a 3 pedal manual(just probably not a BMW one though! biggrin).

What a hideous rear end. Not liking that at all. Side and front profiles are not too bad and as other mentioned, the colour looks great.

The rear end is growing on me already after the initial shock, that often is the case with BMWs. The profile, I like very much. It has some GTR in it both current and old.

Shame it's lost the 'Angel Eyes' LED running lights, I love them on my current '2'
I find it odd that BMW have dropped those with this too. The Angel Eyes have been a BMW signature for years, and it seems a strange direction to go in I reckon.

Yet another BMW you can really only order in black. They should forget the other colours and go back to the days of Mr Ford smile
