I think another bonus is the option of having a car where the roof comes off.
True but only if you're happy with carrying the extra weight - in fact I think the Cayman also has (some of) the extra weight but I don't know how much.craigjm said:

That’s only a bonus to those wanting a convertible - no comfort to a cayman buyer saying your car is heavier so that we can offer a boxster as well.
Better to have that choice than not though. Miserablegit said:
Remarkably similar figures to an e type…
I wish it was, or equally happy with a cayman/alpine/boxster I would still be quiet competitive on a track day with all of them as well any Elise that isn’t a cup special.I still have full leather interior inc recaro cs from lotus with all the stuff for daily driving or light GT duties,
Then bigger brakes, Bilstiens b16 quaife and everything you need for a trackday short of a cage and harnesses, big boot for full size spare wheel/tyre tools and jack.
It’s very much a more compromised car in many respects from what left the factory, but perhaps in its own way offering another perspective on the sweet spot between a lotus and a Cayman, at the budget end of the market that isn’t called MX5…
Bloody hell, 11 pages and no definitive conclusion on if an Alpine is better than a Cayman or not! I'm confused.
Can someone help me? I want the best performing sports car in this segment. My priorities are:
Residuals
Badge snobbery appeal, to impress my neighbours.
Ability to carry golf clubs (no i don't actually play I just think this is an important measure of practicality)
A high level of "perceived quality" (perceived by others that I want to impress, obviously).
Ability to go to the shops and get shopping, in bags.
German.

They are the most important considerations in a sports car I think.

Don't forget that you need it to be light too. You have no idea why but remember a bloke mentioning something about "adding lightness" or something like that. Can someone help me? I want the best performing sports car in this segment. My priorities are:
