Surely strong residuals make it the opposite of a good used buy ie it hasn't depreciated much!
It's a good used buy because when you buy and eventually sell you won't lose much. It is a fairly polarising car it seems. For every ten people I meet that like it, there's one that truly hates it.

Except when they constantly hunt out Alpine posts and post the same crap time and again- I see you’ve been posting your photos on the Lotus Emira thread as well- as others have said - why does the Alpine trigger you?Lexington59 said:

Every post you make about the Alpine, and there have been a few, are just a pile of bitter, odd, Porsche, BS, trolling. Prove me wrong. Edited by ddom on Sunday 5th September 20:25
I like the front, and front/side is ok, but the last 1/4 part of the car, they could have done a better job, ys its a bit the old a110 way, but... not that nice.
although a year or 2-3 ago, I saw a tuning example with a spoiler that masks the rear a bit, I thought, hm... does it look better or? I thought it did a bit, on that cars and coffee event was also a standard a110 so i could compare :-)
was something or a look alike of this
but, something smaller could help also
hm, cheaper then I thought

Boring engine, boring gearbox, quite a few nasty owners.
really? As an owner of a manual 718 GT4 an alpine wasn’t even close to the radar. In fact i’ve said before an m2 wasn’t a consideration as an alternative when I got the chance to get into a new GT4, but that would be ahead of the alpine.
Each to his own but I think you’d need to be real fan boy to part with your money.
judging by how many they’ve sold not many keyboard warriors do put their hard earned cash down

Fair, bur you could argue the cayman is forever compared to the alpine( granted that’s not a gt4) I’d be interested to know how many average punters (like me who own between 1 and 3 cars, not a fleet) would purchase alpine above a cayman. I’m sure Google and sales figures could give me a clue but this has taken me far too long to type when I’m two bottles of white down to check It’s always a brave move to release a car which is planted squarely in the Cayman’s back yard.
Objectively & on paper, there’s very little (if anything) to justify taking one over a Cayman, but numbers only tell you things that can be counted.. That said, having driven one for half a day a few weeks ago, it was a blast to drive. The car is entirely about chassis enjoyment - which is supplied in spades. Flinging it around the North Pennines and Dales certainly papered over any of the things that weren’t perhaps quite to my liking.
I ‘get it’ now, and I say that as a Cayman S owner.
I wouldn’t swap mine for one, and I think the residuals/buy-in for one make it a fairly challenging proposition, but I think it’s the kind of car which the right owner knows he/she wants.
