I gather most of us use Tesco Momentum, but if you're given the choice between Shell and Esso what's your preference?

Probably Esso with it being Ethanol free in most locations.

It is probably all in my head, but I didn't feel like my M4 performed as well with the ESSO in comparison to Tesco 99. I always used to put Shell in the S14 200SX and I did like it back then. BMW also recommend Shell for their M cars too.

Interesting. I usually use Momentum but I'm going out later and where I'm going those are my choices!

Esso is 1.2 miles away, Tesco is 6 miles away.

If the local Shell wasn't on the motorway after the one down the road was flooded twice and flattened, Shell would be my choice, so Esso it is.

I thought the nerdy video from pages back showed pure ethanol is super powerful. So what's the problem with a little ethanol in our petrol - if the hoses tubes and pipework can deal with it?

Ethanol has a lower energy density than petroleum. In 5-10% proportions it, IIRC, actually had a marginally detrimental impact to efficiency in engines that aren't specifically designed for it. Where it's used in high performance applications, that's typically with engines that have high compression ratios to take advantage of the much higher octane rating of things like E85 to prevent destination and pre-ignition.

Or at least that's my understanding.

Local filling station has just changed from Esso to Texaco. E10 is £1:43.9/litre, while their Supreme (only 97 RON) is £1:62.9! That seems rather steep.eek

yikes

That's the highest difference I've ever heard of. I wonder if it is because they don't sell much super.

Tesco today was 143.9 for Momentum 99. 95 was 138.9, still the cheapest locally by far.

That is a really good price. I can't get Momentum any cheaper than 151.9 where I am.

I filled up last week some time at 154.9. I will probably need to refuel next weekend so be interesting to see what it is.
