Although if you dig there are many self proclaimed oil experts. Lots talk about prices rising. And its inevitable. Couple say if you drawer a long term line through price fluctuations they show steady rise of 2% per year. So who knows?

Managed to fill up with Shell V Power at the glorious cost of 144.9p/L because they sent me a random £3 off voucher in the app. Wouldn’t ever pay full price for V power though (but the car does seem a lot smoother and responsive - psychological effect?)

Momentum is my usual go to because of price but is now almost edging over the wrong side of £1.50

Esso Synergy Supreme+ 99 has had up to 5% ethanol since September last year.

Ah that's a shame. I wonder what the lowest ethanol is now between VPower, Momentum and synergy supreme+, I'm not sure if there are any other 99 RON fuels??

Texaco Supreme 99 Performance+ is (somewhat unsurprisingly) claimed to be 99 RON!

But other than Tesco, Esso and Shell all the other E5 fuels seem to be 97 RON which is a pain because BMW recommend minimum 98 RON "whenever possible" for both my cars.

When I did the NC500 last year I had to put in 97 RON a few times, and 95 RON a couple of times when out in the wilds. Having a tiny tank and an engine with a drink problem didn't help!

I watched a comparison test between the fuels being discussed here. I had high hopes for the Esso, as that's my nearest supplier. However, the Shell was way better, both in terms of RON when fresh ( as tested up to 102!!! ), and still at 99 RON 2 years later apparently.

This resonated with me, as I left my Mk1 MR2, a car notorious for gumming up the fuel pump when stood, for 3 years with a quarter tank of VPower and despite every expectation, it simply fired up and drove away as if it was a daily driver. As did my Evo after 26 months.

By comparison, the Esso performed very poorly in the test, the RON rating had dropped to about 93 after a couple of years, which I found disappointing given I'd expected it be the best of the bunch. From memory Momentum was a good second best. Probably doesn't matter to many, but I have to leave my cars for extended periods of time occasionally, so found it useful.

I've never seen this in any texaco in SE or SW. Admittedly I tend to avoid as usually overpriced and not enough RON but have ventured into a dozen or so in last 6 months when needs must and never seen it, unless I've misread the pumps, it's only 95 and 97 despite this unicorn apparently existing.

Total have a made a limited comeback and am told will expand again, didn't they do a 99 Ron, excellium or summat like that.

Vpower is ludicrous price now in most places and the app is crap, nd synergy supreme mostly the same but there's a esso in Leiston that usually has it for not too much more than momentum...long way to go for most.

I'm not sure how much VPower is near here, but Momentum is around £1.50/L and Esso Supreme is £1.65/L, I suspect Shell will be perhaps 1-2p/L more than Esso. I may start using VPower for a few tanks and see how it goes. In the grand scheme of things an extra £5-10/month isn't much.

I generally use Tesco Momentum as there is one 6 or 7 miles away that I visit most weeks to stock up on essentials, and Momentum is only 7p a litre more than E10. Whereas Shell and Esso seem to charge something like another 20p a litre - robbing barstewards!

Yes at all Tesco across the country it is 7p more. Was 6p many many years ago. Back in the days when only a handful sold it. And it was called 99 then I think.

Paid 147 for Momentum yesterday in Kent. The few times I've used Vpower which is a lot dearer i haven't noticed a difference in performance or mpg.

It's been in all the Texaco garages around Crawley / Gatwick for about 2 years. (And there seems to be a lot of Texaco stations around that way, about 7 or 8 stations within 10 miles of Gatwick). Its also normally only about a penny more than Tesco Momentum, vs V-Power which is about 20p more.

Tesco Momentum 99 for me too. Been using it for all my performance cars for the longest time now. Cheaper than Shell V-Power and just as good. I think it's definitely worth the extra cost for the benefits you get from the car (usually better MPG and knowing you're getting the maximum performance out of the car). If it was a pretty ordinary car, I'd probably just use normal stuff, as long as it could run on it.
