A few weeks ago I posted about getting an old Merc Estate as a Shed Daily.

Well I've done much worse, as a self acclaimed Land Rover enthusiast having previously owned a TD5 110, Series 2 and a P38.

So here is the new daily.

2001 P38 DHSE
110k miles
2 Owners from new, fully loaded spec and all the service history one could possibly want.

The downside is I'm currently getting 18mpg which makes my heart bleed. As well as already having to had to replace the thermostat, + soon to be two air springs.

All for the sum of £2000

Time to save the pennies until I can buy a RR Classic Rust bucket and live out my wildest hopes and dreams

I think a lot of people will agree I've run some brave sheds, but that takes the cake.

It’s my second P38 shed. The first one cost £600 and I had to put a new engine in it for the grand cost of £375 (doing work myself).

Believe me I’ve got my eyes open!

Dare I say part of the thrill is waking up and not knowing if I’m making it to work

Agreed. Brave Pill rather than classic shedding. Will be interested to know how you get on!

Look at that majestic thing! Less of a shed, more of a palace. Good work.

This!!! Nothing a multimeter and healthy dose of luck can't fix on these. Air suspension doesn't bother me, until recently I worked for the company that makes the Defender Air suspension kits.

A lovely thing. 18mpg on diesel sounds horrendous, surely it'd be about the same money to run a V8 now there's a decent gap in petrol/diesel prices?

It's not helped by the fact you can't drive for more than 100 meters before hitting road works near me currently. But yes it's terrible. If I could of got a V8 with the history this has I would of. Even better one with an LPG system but that has it's drawbacks as it seems to contribute to the slipped liner / cracked block issues.

My previous P38 with a manual box averaged around 30. Going to service the slushbox and failing that just accept it's due to the fact it takes 30min to travel 3 miles currently.

Should I fix the small leak in my power steering, possibly a costly endeavour, or do I just keep putting more fluid in every month. Decisions decisions.

Depends how long you plan to keep the car. I had a shed of an Astra fail it's MOT on leaking power steering so I didn't really have any choice at that point but to get it fixed!

Is a 2.3 petrol not a bit much and thirsty for little driving?

What about

Also seems strong money for an old petrol lump but I'm no expert smile

An Aero Hot is a good thing, lots of poke. Terrible MPG, but nevertheless nice cars if you can tolerate the mpg.
My last one also have a Stage Noobtune which was excellent!
If you get it, buy some 3mm silicone hose and redo the hoses under the bonnet. They all perish and reduce your boost, so it’s quite common for a tenner and half an hours work to restore an otherwise quite down on power one to max power.

Taken a break from shed-life lately and am back to running my Mx5 full time. Which admittedly is a bit of a shed but ah well. Anyway, due to a certain orange airline being silly right now. Holiday plans have changed and I'm now looking for a shed to trundle around France in... The fuel bill for taking the Mx5 looks a bit painful and it's not the comfiest thing to spend serious time in. SO! suggestions for petrol (live near 2 CAZ's'ss), manual car which accommodates two 6ft+ people with ease and decent MPG! I REALLY want a Honda Jazz but don't think I'll ever be forgiven by my girlfriend...

Just me or does that still seem a lot of cash for an 06 with 165k? They are lovely cars to waft in though it does need some black plastidip to get rid of the chrome trim around the lights

Basing my thinking around the fact you are going around France on holiday, surely a convertible would be a better option than a Honda Jazz - so how about these? all supposedly will do close to 50mpg on a gentle run - 2 of them are French as well so could be fixed in their motherland smile
