I just go on uSwitch and get the cheapest policy, if I can't transfer the policy to the next car I just cancel it and get a different one. It cold started perfectly today, the audio from the radio however now doesnt work. I'm sure it'll be an easy fix smile

Aaron if the digits in your username are an indication of your age then I strongly suggest you find one reliable car and just stick with it. Way cheaper on the wallet in the long run, I speak from experience. Good luck with the L322, braver than most of us!

Nice L322. I know of a Land Rover supplier in Liverpool if you need any parts.

I’ve found an interesting SAAB 9-5

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202102199...
Seems quite pricey for an old Saab with 165k miles. Other wise looks in good nick, and the MOT history is not bad.

Have you gone to look at it?

I would go for something like these. All private sellers, sub 2k and will within 30miles of Anfield.

Fabia Estate - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202206076...

Toyota Avensis - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202204234...

Honda Accord - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202203314...

BMW E46 - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202206136...

Merc E Class - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202206166...

Ok the last one is an interesting colour. haha!!

Lots of cars out there, sub 2k and not through a dealer

You can get the Avensis cheaper than that^

I purchased a MK3 estate 2.0 D4d TR (2010) with 135k miles last month for £1600. No timing belt either to worry about.

A full service Inc oil, fuel filter, pollen+air, 2 new tyres, 12month MOT and a few cheap fixes, car currently stands me at £2014.

I will have a look. I’ve found a Vauxhall Meriva locally that’s not too bad. The boot space looks good:

Aaron,
I also find your car updates fascinating, especially some of the really interesting cars that you get to play with (I like older and quirky stuff!). However with the many insurance changes does it cost much in cancellation and/or admin fees - or do you negotiate them away?

Sorry to be nosy - just interested in how much extra (above your core premium) it costs each year - in case I can find a cheaper route and follow your lead! The last extra/spare car I had was an annual premium of just £120 which was great. However the admin cost to change vehicle or cancel was £50-£70 I think - and whilst not massive values, paying another 50% plus ruled out for me the point of having a cheap car.

Love to hear any tips for keeping cost to change down.

I think you can cancel for free in the 14 day Colling off period and just pay for time actually insured. From the rapid fire updates, I suspect Aaron keeps some a lot less than 2 weeks smile

My newly acquired £900 L322 TD6. 118k, runs and drives absolutely perfect. All the electrics work apart from the electric steering column adjustment as usual. I have an Air suspension inactive warning, 3 amigos and the language is stuck in French, for now I am quite happy. I plan on holding onto it if an LPG 4.4 doesn't come my way

Should be good as long as the gearbox is ok.

Buy an icarsoft i930 diagnostic tool and it will point you in the right direction for most issues.
Wow 900 is cheap, at that price I would park it on the drive as an ornament. I could wash and vacuum it and sit in and read or listen to the radio. Put the rear seats down and sleep in when we have guests. Cheaper than an extension.

I'd owned about 30 different cars by the time I was 30. All were old sheds, but so much more fun than just buying one sensible practical car and keeping it. You sound like my Mum smile

I've had my Volvo on Autotrader for almost a week and not had a bite so far.

Bloke called at 7pm tonight, popped over, had a chat, he put full asking price in my bank and drove off at 8.30pm.

If Carlsberg did shed sales...

I had my first L322 at 19. Was the first sub 5k one I had seen sell on ebay at that point. I plowed 25k onto it within a year! Was putting £100 of my £200 weekly wage into fueling it as I just went everywhere. Even did my trailer test as found myself towing 3.5 ton often.

Much more fun buying and swapping cars, im now 27 but my list of cars includes these as the notable mentions:
5x L322 Range Rover - probably my favourite car and my parents still have 2
Mercedes S430
Bmw 740i
Bmw 330i
Rolls Royce Silver shadow
Bmw 745i
Bmw 520d
Datsun cherry turbo
Bmw 323i (e30)
Ford F350
Range Rover L405
Defender 90
Mk3 Golf gti
Honda prelude

I have had more boring cars like Focus's, pugs, honda etc but always come back to something interesting/massively depriciated and a bit broken with north of 150k miles normally. At a guess I am actually out ahead (current l405 might change that due to depreciation - first car ever to) as most stuff gets sold for a decent profit. Obviously excluding insurance/tax. Most of the stuff listed was sub 1k, some sub 2k except for the F350 and L405 which still have 220k and 166k miles on them.

The Meriva is one of the sttest cars ever conceived. The electrical faults they are prone to can be downright dangerous depending on their timing.

Renault is one of Bearman's specialities, I believe you want a pre-FAP 1.5dci but he will be abe to impart far greater knowledge.

They are, other than being stung by one of two cars I've never lost money on a shed when I've come to sell it. Some have paid for themselves one or two times over when I've gotten bored and shifted them on for the next itch to scratch. Besides, the fun of trying all sorts of cars is worth any costs incurred.

Some I've had for a matter of hours or days before either buyers remorse or boredom sets in and I swap for something else, I pay monthly for insurance and usually get most or all of the first month back if I cancel. I've gone and done about 150 miles in the L322 tonight and it runs and drives perfect, the radio issue was just a loose connection. Few issues to fix or ignore but so far I'm very happy with it, unless it gives me trouble early on I highly doubt I'll be getting rid any time soon.

I would've preferred a 4.4 on LPG, but I still got between 28-34mpg on a run today. Gave it a quick vac out and stuck the rubber mat set on Marketplace along with the sidesteps and spare set of wheels, I'm hoping they all sell which would put me at about £500 into the car. Interior isn't bad, it is only on 118k

Up until end of last Year I had owned THREE cars for the previous 24 years, on my fourth one now.
If I had kept the one I sold last year it wou.d have been 20 years old now.
