Well my shed insignia elite is back and is wonderful!

So wonderful in fact my dad wants it! This is a guy that’s used to driving around in his Range Rover sport!

He picked the insignia up today for me and is mightily impressed
Excellent news!

If your Megane has projector headlamps, you'd have been fine - if not, thats a wise move.
Not sure that is 100% correct.

"Section 4.1.4 of the current MOT inspection manuals for both motorcycles and cars and passenger vehicles states ‘Existing halogen headlamp units should not be converted to be used with high intensity discharge (HID) or light emitting diode (LED) bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp.’"

"For class 3,4,5 and 7 vehicles, the defect ‘Light source and lamp not compatible’ only applies to vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986.

Should a vehicle be presented for an MOT test with conversions before 1 April 1986 they must not be failed with immediate effect.

Vehicles presented with converted halogen headlamp units first used on or after 1 April 1986 will continue to be failed."

Basically I may well have got away with it, but do I want the hassle of failing the test, having to remove them and then going for a retest?

TBH I think wintering in a 2CV would be super cool - although I imagine they are a bit chilly and need deicing on the inside of the screen as well as the outside? Not really shed territory any more though.
I've done it before, you can get quite warm inside, but the main problem would be future corrosion

I can see this being aggro for me in the future. My Lanrdover headlights are crap, so it'd be great to upgrade them. But I can see a debate about what the definition of a "unit" is.

A bit if a shed quandary on the horizon. Knocking noise coming from the back of the car, everything checked, nothing found, I'm almost positive now that the little pug has succumbed to the dreaded back axle needing replacement which would cost more than I paid for the car, I'll find out next week when I can get it up in the air.

From scanning the usual places it's slim pickings in shed budget so I might have to up my normal cut off point of a grand, there is some pretty deplorable dross for absurd prices out there at the moment and virtually nothing that I fancy.

I’ve seen the 2.0 hdi engine mentioned a few times in this thread. Is it the one in Citroen’s/Peugeot’s around 2007/2008 ish? Are they reliable enough for a daily 40 mile round trip commute on motorways?
Christ, only 40 miles?! biggrin The aforementioned Mondeo is the 2.0 140 Euro5 engine, 222k miles and climbing rapidly due to a 130-mile daily commute over a stty back road. The engine seems better now than it ever has, more free and eager.

And another in for Vol 2.

Shed was used for its original purpose this morning - the 6.30 dash to the station for the train to London.

It’s dark in the mornings, the screen wouldn’t demist and the lights are so awful I’d have seen more driving with my eyes closed..! Recent rear brakes, shocks and springs were bang on along lanes that are more like rutted tracks in places. Will get it through the MOT in the next fortnight and then do the front discs and pads ready for winter.

Anyway, have an atmospheric shot from the platform.

The only thing that puts me off an S-Max is I've heard they need expensive special tyres - is that true, in your experience?

I'd love an S-Max if I wasn't too cheap to buy one as a shed

I'd avoid the TDCI ones that have a wet belt - they can be a bit of a bork bus as my work colleague found out to his cost

My son joined the shed ranks this weekend, he was a bit nervous about leaving his Golf R outside his flat, fair to say this will not give him the same concern, sold it for £500 or so more than he paid for it six months and 5000 miles ago.

A 2005 Mercedes CLK C220CDI in Mercedes "Vorhersehbares Silber"

Seller was a bit odd, but the car seems OK, paid £2100, it has 104,000 miles and the MOT history backs that up, new battery in feb, new tyres, brakes all round (and front calipers by the looks of it), recent service for £694, oil and water all correct levels, goes well enough and limited odd noises. Some steering module replaced at £264 as well.

Always thought these were a looker, came up pretty well, will prob give the wheels a spray and do some other bits.

looked underneath, no leaks and amazed how free of any scabbiness on any components, certainly doesn't look 16 years old, better in that respect than the 5 year old Golf.

It has Parrot thing for Bluetooth, that looked broken but came alive with a new battery and he can call and stream music to it, aircon works, the token issues were the auto fold mirrors are a bit random and the drivers window switch is a bit wonky, new switch pack is £16 off ebay.

Bits for these seem pretty cheap, dont believe this has a DPF to cause any problems, it made it back from Cheshire to Prestwick fine last night and did 46 mpg.

Gave it a good once over on Saturday, wheels off and evidence of new suspension bits at some point, starts fine cold or hot.

Seems like a half decent shed for the money.

Honestly didn't think would find something half decent at reasonable money,

Into year 4 of owning this shed now, and it's just passed another MOT. Here's to another 12 months of cheap, cheerful and carefree motoring.

Only the 1.8TD uses the wet belt.

And who wants the 1.8 in a S-Max hehe

I spy a 16v badge, meaning it has the rev happy 1.25 Zetec-S unit.... one of my favourite engines.

I'd love another. Would have to be a 3 door pre facelift with the plastic bumpers though

Any ideas on a coolant leak? Am losing fluid but doesn't appear to be constant loss while standing so suggests it is when the engine is running - could it be a split pipe or water pump possibly?

It's also getting a service and some drop links this week

It's a 2007 1.4 16v Ibiza - a relative pup compared to some of you guys as it's only on 104k miles

Great shed

I ran one for about 18 months.
