I don't see that ending well for your bit of ply nor your car once you get above 20 mph or so ! eek
smile No damage thankfully
Contrary to what the owners seem to think, BMWs don't have to be driven above the speed limit everywhere.
That law only applies to Audi drivers whistle

looking at a 2010 Saab 93 Turbo Diesel.

Looks o.k but says the radio needs a code to unlock is that easy. Anything to look out for.

You can normally find them on Google or go on eBay and get one for 99p

They may do, but I believe, from many years of commuting on the A1, that it is only Audis where exceeding the speed limit at all times is a legal requrement

Yup or use it as an excuse to stick a double din unit in with modern features.

What’s the age, miles etc on the 9-3 you are looking at?

On my wife's 1999 Saab 9-5 and my 2002 ditto, when it says it needs a radio code, it doesn't.

What it actually means is that the backup battery in the unit that stores the coding of the unit to the car has failed, and the unit needs re-coding to the car using the Saab tech 2 computer. Which will cost you a visit to someone who has one, and a fee of around £40 for 5 minutes work. And it will require this every time the car battery is disconnected.

I have gone for the a permanent fix and have simply bought a replacement head unit from Ebay for about £30 and fitted it myself. The same applies for any unit in that part of the dash with pixcel deficiencies in the displays. I simply buy replacements off Ebay and replace them myself. Only the "radio" actualy required re-coding to the car in our car.

I don't know if this was still the case by 2010, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.

Here's one on Ebay, for example link to unit

2010 100k quite a bit of work seems a decent price. Just says radio code not working after changing radio.

In which case you need to pair it to the car, using the Saab computer I believe.
Just need to find a Saab specialist who has one, ask them if I am correct, and get it paired up.
Auto-electricians tend not to have them in my experience, you need to find a Saab indie.

Agreed. Profile says he’s in Sheffield so bound to be a few Tech2 owners round that way. If not nip down to Leeds and see Ron who is well known in the NG93 circles

Yes I agree. I currently own my first ever BMW and although its a lowly base 318d in Sport spec, there's something about these cars that eggs you on. Not so much on the motorway maybe, where Audis definitely rule, but any fast winding A or B road, you can't but help pushing on. That RWD chassis, I guess....

Can you just add an android unit in?

Someone please turn me away from an Insignia diesel Tourer, they tick so many boxes, and are quite truly well into shed territory - they are so cheap, you could run the 'diesel' risks, and if st hits the fan, scrap it and buy another one!! Tax, MPG, heft, modern, safe, load holding....

1.8 petrols are ok, but the tax is getting on for £305 now, seems like a lot for such low price car - yes, cheaper to run probably overall, but the cheaper tax cant be sniffed at at this level, really a tricky balance for shedders I think.

My Vectra is still plodding on, but the more miles I am doing in it, the more I want something a little bit more more modern to sit in as I am in my car alot.

Is a diesel one, just to risky....at this level

Yes but you will need the wiring kit and surround. Mine came with a Xtron unit along with the Connects2 kit so steering wheel controls all work. Wireless carplay and android auto are handy

Not sure what Bearman would say, but my take on it is this; is it an older Insignia Tourer, or one of the later ones with the Ecoflex engine? The earlier ones with the current VED regime are likely to cost you £210 or even £255 a year, as they are either in the 141-150 CO2 category, or the 151-165 one, the tourer being a heaver old beast...so not a huge saving there....

The diesel engine has its issues. Mainly the oil sump pick up problem which frequently kills them. The petrol engine bork factor is low.

MPG- my 2 litre Siggy wasn't as good as I expected. Needed a good run to hit indicated an 50 MPG. Round town, more like low to mid 30s at best...my current 318d is miles better.

I liked my Insignia, but put it this way, I probably wouldn't have another one, at least not with the 2 litre CDTI engine. I had a 16 plate 1.6 twin turbo diesel model on loan and felt much lighter in the nose and if anything had better pick up in the mid range....that car was really quite impressive tbh.

..but I guess if its really that cheap, you do get a heck of a lot of car for your money. Always felt built like a tank too. Very sturdy cars.
