Was it the Smart car that had changeable plastic panels?
Yep! Quite a clever idea if you ever fancied a change of color, you could swap them over.

The front wings on a Clio? The rear hatch on a Citroen AX ? The bumbers, dash and almost all interior, the cam covers, the inlet manifold, the wheel trims, the number plates.

No one has mentioned the Citroen Mehari - the entire bodytub is made of plastic inc. the seats, bonnet, bootlid. Not fibreglass, just simple plastic. Under the surface it's the same as a Citroen Dyane

I was about to mention the Mehari as well... It also had a self healing property (to a certain extent) where small dents would gradually "pop out"... with plastic degradation, I wouldn't want to put that to the test nowadays!

Have been told off many a time by fellow kit owners who didn't appreciate my use of the term tupperware party, when referring to a meet of home built Cobras, etc. - we're back to defining "plastic".

I remember when my dad bought a first-gen Fiat Tipo around 1990 the salesman said the tailgate was plastic. Haven't been able to find anything authoritative as to whether that was GRP or pure polymer.

Yes, but actually not plastic. Soviet Russian rags shredded and mixed with East German glue and pressed into a mould by a screw down mould and left for 'a while' to cure.

All you need to know here...

Absolutely love that. Quality control is Herr. Schmidt taking his running shoe to the slam panel and pulling, before applying some more delicate persuasion with a "Dresden Screwdriver"

My favourite is the message daubed on the wall calling for "No Mercy for Honecker" - assumed this was early 90's and a similar video with the German lead up to it confirms it was shot in around 1993 at the end of the production of the Trabi. Fascinating times.

I was driving behind a Hyundai i40 earlier which had a lump missing from its tailgate...clearly plastic, which surprised me.
