I was expecting to be £35,000. Just goes to show how low we've sunk.

The MK4 Fiesta is so much better in every conceivable way that not even nostalgia could get me to thicken and engorge over this.

And those can often dip below £25,000 too.

This is the June-August 1989 Ford range brochure that I still have a copy of. Steel wheel covers were standard for the Ghia and S.

I remember these alloys being standard on the Flight special edition.

The catalogue view is exactly when I bought mine. The only extra I paid for was metallic paint. I’m sure later in the model life the alloys were at least an option.

Good chance the alloys might have become standard by 1994 though?
Alloys were standard on the Ghia in late 92

The range had been facelifted by the time the car in the ad came out though. I think all Ghias had alloys by 1994.

Awful, awful thing.
And the non-original wheels on this one are hurl
On a Ghia of this age they are the original wheels. Correct size tyres too.

XR2i would have had 185s on using this alloy
This is wearing Ghia correct 165s

I had a 1986 MK2 1.4S and the engine was the best bit about that... which says a lot for how bad the rest was I guess but it was a pokey little thing, I'd totally forgotten that I had a MK3 "SX" (a 1.3?) for a bit as a spare car though, bought on eBay unseen for pennies and turned out to be a clean example, unlike the 1.4S that was a badly repaired insurance write-off that taught me a lot about fixing cars and what to look for when buying them biglaugh

A Ghia would have been nice though, all that luxury smile

This is horrible. As soon as the engine mounts are even 10% worn, the engine feels like it's going to jump through the bonnet, terrible condensation magnets, woefully unsupportive seats (look at the photos, 55k and baggy as f***!), crap gearchange, very poor build quality. I'd take last week's Zaf in a heartbeat over this turd.

And they haven't even pumped up the tyres for the ad.

Crush it.

Horrible horrible piece of st.
From a time when Ford served up any old crap to customers, got to agree.
I remember the chief engineer they had in for the newer mk4 Fiesta found massive amounts of play in the suspension for example, but managed to turn it into a decent handling car (especially as the platform sharing original Puma).
As for the engine, I remember my non car savvy mate running low on oil a few times to the point where it was tapping loudly, but we just topped it up and it carried on and on.

Indeed, it's rare to see a Punto like that on the road these days.

My mum had a succession of Fiesta Ghia’s bought new every 18 months or so for years

The last fiesta she had was not a Ghia but a Flight identical to the one in the pic .. the last of 10-12 she bought from Cowie Ford in Blackburn

The Flight impressed her so much she replaced it with Clio 1.4RT ! And was the last Ford she ever bought

in 1983 I bought a new xr2 then had it converted into a Lumo 105t , which had a pace turbo, what a little beast that was ,don't think there are any left as they only made 20 or so. does any one know of one. not really a shed. After that had 2 mk2 xr2 turbo with Turbo conversions, cracking cars.
