That is gopping. Ultimately I think all electric cars are like white goods, they have no character, but are part of our future. I have just ordered an ionic 5 to carry out daily duties due to the fast charging, relative affordability and in my opinion decent looks. I plan to counter it with a a cheap tvr chimeara to actually enjoy. I can't understand why people would spend £100k on a vehicle like this when it will be outdated and disposable in years to come.

I must admit I've never been in an electric car so cannot comment on their character, but I do struggle to believe how they can have the character of a nice petrol engine. BUT, the big caveat here is that 99% of daily drivers on the road, and the cars an Ionic 5 is set to replace are largely crappy 4 cylinder diesel hatchbacks, and I'd much rather the silence of an electric car over the clanky diesel noise, and even most 4 cylinder petrols sound very dull and lack any form of decent character. It is only for the special cars where that may be an issue.Regards to it becoming outdated..... I guess "it depends", cars were evolving pretty quickly in the 50s, 60s and 70s, did they suddenly drop in value more than cars at any other period of time? Do you think electric cars will depreciate more heavily than ICE cars have done?
For 99.9% of my driving an EV would be absolutely perfect, and my car (Lexus LS460) would be a perfect candidate for being electric, it's supposed to be quiet and refined (I'll admit the V8 is a nice thing to hear though!) but unfortunately charging at home would not be an option for me at the moment, so I'm not sure what I'd do really. Whilst I could afford to spend £500/month leasing a car, the cost savings wouldn't be worth it for me because I do so few miles per year, and I'm not willing to spend a huge sum of money on something that'd almost certainly feel like a downgrade!
Happy Christmas, too!

Tricky one. IMO the Taycan (in sport plus with sound on) has more character and is more fun to drive than the majority of even vaguely comparable ICE cars. As fun as a handful of the very best ICE cars? No, but it's right up there with all the over assisted modern uber sports saloons and it's nipping at the heels of some very nice ICE sports cars. What it lacks in a spine tingling noise it surprisingly makes up for in other areas like subtlety; being able to unleash it in public without a 110dB wrung out ICE making you look like a bit of a d1ck allows you to be a d1ck none the less every 200 yard gap. Almost 5000 miles in now and the novelty hasn't worn off yet. For what is really a first generation effort it's pretty damn good. The future isn't all bad despite BMW's best efforts to persuade us otherwise.southerndriver said:
Ludicrous price
On your price point - for company car and salary sacrifice buyers, this £100k iX is the same price to ‘own’ as a £50k ICE car in a higher BIK tax group, e.g. An M340d or M340i, which emit 165+ g/KM of CO2 and therefore has a 37% BIK tax cost tagged to them.EV’s are currently taxed at 1%, which basically means for these drivers it’s a no brainier to go for an EV.

I’ll stick with my £900 mk2 Focus; cheaper than a single headlight. I hope these are riddled with problems.
Why do you HOPE they're riddled with problems? That sounds like jealousy to me. Why would you HOPE for misfortune for someone having one of these when you've never met them? That sounds incredibly petty. To be honest, I think I'd rather just have the headlight.

Goodness, what a reaction More of a reaction than the monstrosity itself.
Yes it was an odd post, why did you type it? The level of sneer and anger in this forum towards cars is getting weird. You have a £900 shed someone else has a £100k iX neither is to be sneered at, they're just different choices, stop getting so wound up.

I think this is where EV drivetrains work the best and you can get a bunch of tax efficient bling to go with it. So long as you don’t expect any of diesel’s benefits like endless range, drive at whatever speed you feel like for as long as you want, or being able to tow stuff.

I think this is the way to go.That photograph above is a real challenge just to look at. I'm sure its nice to drive and the interior is nice. Maybe the looks will grow on me, but I doubt it.
