406 V6, its been for sale so long it's ridiculous, as was the 10k price tag at the start. Now mid thread.
If you're a Scot, you might find the number plate off-putting:

I recall that being stupidly expensive last year?

I think it's a £2k car tops in today's world.

There's just something so right about this shape of 7 series. Taut, muscular, purposeful. So, nothing like their offerings today.

I had an identity crisis—I believe it is de rigueur these days—for a while but it's back to normal service now.
Indeed it is - glad to hear normality reinstated (whatever normaility is these days)

But what about Magnus?, of all the lord and masters, he must be confused that *another* could get him to achieve such similar feats in the outside lane. Surely only a radical change of accompanying playlist could have given the game away?

indeed, I prefer a late face-lift car (as I do with most BMWs). Ironically, the E38 was slated for being boring and conservative when it was first released.

Another Alpina currently in thread, although I claim a Friday exemption that it likely won't stay in-thread!

I notice one of our thread regulars is having a cheeky bid. biggrin

Wibble.
All the car I need. Shame my pockets aren't deep enough.

Good spot on the bidding! Wonder if the report of a notchy gearbox will keep the price from going mad.
Narrator: it did not

Those words have certainly come back to haunt us.

hehe

E38s are becoming pretty rare now unfortunately. I liked my 728i, but, for me, the E65 was the better car in just about every way, save for the running costs!!!!

Or Readly. Similar price to a single normal magazine.

Great article, the Century looks brilliant.

I wonder if that is a big problem about to get worse or not?
Always think these look like very good cars, if you can accept the anodyne appearance.

I remember the last thread discussion of them (BM: "So what is torque vectoring?") being somewhat inconclusive.

If you could have the 290bhp and tech from this one under the skin of the previous generation, it would be very tempting.

There's an idea.
Make your dream model from different iterations of the same. Rule could be not more than 2 generations apart, so no W213 engines in a W210 body, for example.

Who am I kidding? It's a silly idea, and it's after half 10. Grown ups are either drinking, getting ready for bed, or if they are called CharlesDeGaulle, then probably engaged in pleasurable pursuits that would lead to instant disqualification from any nearby moderators.

Anyway, off the top of my head, mine would be a facelift W210 estate with the M273 5.5 from the later 211. And equivalent rustproofing from same!
Fitted with Distronic too.

That's enough to bring me out of lurking!

Would "replacement model in the same place in the range" count?

If so, then mine would have to be a series 1 CX fitted with the 3L v6 from the XM - and the real shame of this is that I believe that the CX was used as the development mule for the V6, but it was never in production.

I've nearly posted this a couple of times, it being half the price of non broken ones, as I can't believe it would cost that much to fix. I mean I doubt it's an oil change, and wonder if seller is fed up with chasing or not fixing it, there is no info bar it having a full Honda history so perhaps their price was scary mcscary face.

And RR, your (well "a") postcode is in the link, I've taken it out of mine- just copy to the end of the numbers, not the rest of the search string.

I did it with a 911 SC, took out the Bosch K-jet 3.0ltr and installed a 3.6 varioram from a 993. The difference was incredible.

Now?

Series 1 XJ6 with an S3 efi engine.

I once found an old spy shot report type thing online of when they were first launched which compared the rear end to a Mk5 Cortina

I doubt it will be a hard problem to fix, start with an oil/filter flush and change if still having issues it will be box out but lots of specialists around that could sort the problem a lot less than Honda.

You may even be able to get a s/h or recon gearbox
