This one?

I went to look at the lots in King's Lynn yesterday and that was one of the better cars. A majority of the ones that look good in photos aren't quite so good up close. Cracked lacquer and heavy chips don't show up although ACA have made strides in the last couple of years to take close up photos of obvious damage, they didn't used to... frown I probably wasn't the only one to complain about cars with badly damaged bumpers that they's previously avoided showing. Since the pandemic, many more buy remotely but I still wouldn't advise bidding blind! They at least drive the cars through on auction day (if they run!) unlike CCA / Silverstone, Historics, H+H etc who do it static and don't eventake their own photos/ videps, relying on the vendors ones, often old.

Lifting the rear hatch on the GTi twincam, there was some rust around the rear wiper loom blanking cap (the one on the right, presumable used on LHD cars). The headlining hadn't dropped like so many 90s cars seem to, but it left strange marks if you dragged your hand across it, maybe it has a nap like baize? scratchchin It's bid past £2k already pre-auction on The Saleroom.
That's the one. I'd have been surprised if it didn't have rust just because of the age to be honest. My grandads 216 had a nap like finish to it so it could be that, I'd have to have a quick ruffle of my 200 Coupe's roof as they pretty much used the same material throughout that period to be sure though. Aye I'd seen the pre-auction price (it was £2300 when I had a quick nosey), still at that kind of money I'd be better ploughing that into the Coupe's restoration, though a proper hatchback in the fleet wouldn't be unwelcome (heck I wouldn't say no to another 214SEi if I could find one).

Still have fond memories of a pool car I used a lot - one of the best pedal arrangement for heel and toe combined with a fizzy engine that loved being kept on the boil made them a joy to drive on twisty roads (No head gasket jokes from me)

I much prefer the clean sharp lines of the early cars though, everything seems to put on flab and weight at each facelift.

Agree with that.
I can't remember the last time I actually saw one (original or facelift), must be at least 10 years and even then I think it was a Coupe.

What are these like as a mini barge?

Excellent but thirsty.
That’s a 300h so not at all thirsty. Mid-high 40s easily achievable.

Well that example sold extremely quickly
Or, if it was a 300h as is being claimed, at that price it was either someone who hasn't read a single line about the car market since 2015, or it has been pulled as a scam.

It was a 300, not a 300h, one of the first-gen models.

In other news, I gather from previous posts there is a certain degree of whisky appreciation amongst the regulars in here. Well, Mrs Sternhammer has just sent me a text stating she has just treated me to a new bottle that will be delivered shortly, but she has omitted to tell me what she has ordered.....Exciting times.

Full report once said bottle has arrived and is opened, when the sun is over the yard arm.
The mystery whisky has arrived....

I have no idea whether this is considered to be a good dram or not. What I can say is it really does taste good. Very sweet with strong honey flavours.

In the interests of consumer reporting, I shall now proceed with imbibing multiple taster measures, so that I may confirm if fellow bargistas should consider purchasing a bottle this particular tipple. All whilst browsing the internet in search of suitable threadworthy conveyances for your perusal.

Come the morning, I fully expect to be either on my way to collecting a suitably splendid barge or weeping into my flat white, whilst staring in dismay at the pile of V8 powered rust that I may or may not have drunkenly purchased via "the 'Bay."

First search term entered: Mercedes W126......

Can anybody with more beardage than I share thoughts on this?
Advertised as an E39 528i but MOT check comes up as a "BMW Alpina." Sadly the same check lists it as a 2.8L when a '99 E39 Alpina should be a 3.3L.

Has someone gone through the effort of fitting all those convincing looking plaques just to fool a fool like me?

Advert here.

Edit: nvm it's fake. Shame as nice colour though!

Likewise, I bought mine with 118k miles on the clock, ran it for a year and it was flawless.

One of the first I tried when I started my 'whiskey for beginners' thread.

It says you should keep it in the freezer - my freezer was never big enough so I never had it this way !

Are you going to freeze it ?

Enjoyed it as 'a beginner to whiskey' - that's my caveat as I know nothing about whisky/whiskey/s (sp?!)

Hit eBay HARD later.......

I've already manoeuvred several chunks of beef and a number of Mrs Strontium's finest batch cooked curries and chillis out of the way and into the other freezer in readiness....

Did I understand that properly - he avoided 4K euros in just 2 years motoring? How do the Italians afford it? Although clearly not all of them pay...

I think it's more the accumulated fines he would have paid for skipping than the couple of bucks needed had he actually paid each time.

Anyway, £1500 Espace V6 that's lost pressure, plenty of those units around depending on what it needs. Yes you could buy a running one at this cash a few years ago but it isn't a few years ago now. Sure someone here has one...

Did that threadists Cayenne go? The 4.5 has weak spots this claims to have dealt with. Cheap anyway.

XK at 3295, obligatory headlining drop, am not going to check history for rust, still, looks good from 10 feet.

You can use some local roads from what I understand at least it is like that in France. I know someone who did not pay €70 or so as they were only taking cash and it was UK car. He was told to pay on the internet whenever he could, but he was too busy unfortunately and completely forgot... I would also like to know how they can afford it.
