Classy colours on this W140 for £5k:

That is a very nice colour scheme. £5k starting bid for an old 6 cylinder S Class with almost 150k on still seems crazy to me though. I must be getting old!

After all this talk of hydro gas suspension and double glassing I did an AT search for C6’s. Wowsers! They are holding their value. I was expecting she’d money.

Strangely attractive. The velour interior is proper and I bet that’s a giggle with a supercharger on board.
It's even sentient.

Good news and I'm a little happier now. Having forced open and more thoroughly examined the old thermostat I was thankfully mistaken, the bit of rubber that was stuck in the thermostat was actually part of the inside gasket that had seperated, and I've married it up for confirmation.

But there's still the other two thirds in the system somewhere, probably in the bottom of the bottom hose, too big to enter and circulate through the radiator and then go through the pump and thermostat again?
I'd have to go looking for the other bit, my bet would be the radiator somewhere. Chances are if it got into the water pump it would just be chopped up anyway, they really don't mess around, so doubtful it'll cause any real issues.

Given the Citroen love, what are people's views of the C5? I quite fancy a cheap mini barge and I quite like the looks. Not bothered about engine or transmission so can be any combination - a nice comfortable ride and a bit of waft is what I am after.

Good idea or will I regret it?
Definitely get the hydractive (the oleopneumatic suspension). My money is on the estate.

3.0HDi is the ultimate one (same V6 TT as Jaguar used), but they're like hen's teeth.

There are some very good Indy specialists around for proper Citroens too; Chevronics is the big one round my way and Hubnut travels all the way from Wales to Hertfordshire to use them.

I'm certain that they're just floating around at the bottom of the radiator (the flow goes in at the bottom hose) unable to get into the core, they're too big, anything that got through the radiator wouldn't be an issue anyway. They're downstream of the pump and thermostat so I'm not going to worry about it. I'm not going to drain 12 litres of bloody expensive new Toyota pink premix and spend another day messing about smile

Erm. Strangely alluring competition Retrobarge? This would make a fantastic barge for a mobile mechanic.

Is it worth draining and straining to check for contamination and if nothing significant put it back in?

Doh! I hadn't thought of that. But no, I'm really not worried. There's probably two pieces of rubber 3-4cm long at the base of the radiator, they're not going anywhere.

Advice please.

Having examined all the hoses and unions and followed the coolant route through the system, I can't think where it could of come from to be circulating in the system?
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that looks rather like a Bic pen lid, the sort which were everywhere once but I haven’t seen for a decade or more.

Which poses the question, what do people use to clean their ears now? Bic should sell them in packets of 10 as general picks.

WRT the Saab V6 single turbo mentioned earlier there’s a YouTube video of replacing the cam belt which certainly put me off buying one as a barge, but could be used for a lengthy intermission if the potters wheel is no longer available.

A nice example of Friday budget fodder. A V8 with vinyl seats?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202203233...

Or would folk perhaps prefer this machine from the very top tier of bargeism?

That's a very charming thing, isn't it? You could just about buy a rotten boot lid for a Mk1 Escort for the same price, so it's all relative.

That lawn needs more moss in it, gives it a nice springy feel.
