Its getting a bit silly. For the first time ever yesterday, i considered swapping my 330d for a 320d, because it cost me £80 to fill up which is getting silly now.
I hate 4cyl diesels with a passion but if fuel is £1.50 a litre and climbing, what can you do?
My normal car is an E350CDi coupe. Absolutely love the power and torque. But since it’s been in the garage and I’ve been fooling around in a B200CDI I have really noticed the MPG difference. fk me, it’s agricultural though!I hate 4cyl diesels with a passion but if fuel is £1.50 a litre and climbing, what can you do?
Unless you live in rural Scotland or Wales, with just the tiniest bit of forward planning there is no need to use Shell, BP or Esso let alone motorway services.
I can only remember one instance in the past couple of years when I didn't use Tesco, Costco or other discounted supermarket fuel, which was during the panic-buying when Shell was the only place around that had fuel.

Were saved!!!
Biden has released enough of our oil reserves so we now have nearly a full two days supply. (The US consumes around 18 million barrels a day)

At least Esso gives you the option of zero ethanol in most of the country anyway.I can only remember one instance in the past couple of years when I didn't use Tesco, Costco or other discounted supermarket fuel, which was during the panic-buying when Shell was the only place around that had fuel.

I presume owners of electric cars are suffering some sort of woe ?
I think comparatively an EV is still around a 10th of the cost per mile to run if you have a big V8, which I do. If you have a 600 mile range diesel, the numbers are different. My ICE is now costing 42p a mile to run and my EV is currently .03p a mile which will rise to around .06p a mile from April. The massive hike in the standing charge from electricity suppliers (a 70% increase in my case) can't be factored in as I would have to pay it anyway.

My Touareg has a 100 litre tank. Luckily I am not a high mileage user otherwise I would be hurting.

I filled my work van up with diesel at Tesco on my way home @ 155.9p a litre, apart from profiteering what other reason do other fuel stations have for charging 10-15p more a litre?
How many times in the past have you seen a news item that caused the price of petrol to rise; war, natural disaster, OPEC cuts, etc?Overnight the price at the pump shot up, even though the petrol station is still selling the petrol in it's storage tanks, that it bought long before the news item.
And how many times has the war, natural disaster etc. ended, and the price dropped overnight?
It never does, it slowly trickles down a few pence a week until the price stabilizes at just above the pre war, natural disaster etc. price. And all the drivers have just been fooled into thinking that it's back to the original price.

I’m sure around 10/15 years ago petrol was around £1.20 a litre

Good point! One of my first cars (Ford Sierra 2.0L) had a combined MPG of about 28.Most cars are more economical now

My V8 has a combined MPG of 26 (and it's not brand new either).
The diesel Merc can get nearly 50.
Thinking about this logically, I wonder if (despite the fuel rises) it's actually quite a bit cheaper to run a sesnsible petrol/diesel car now (modern, much better MPG) than it was in the 90s? (And no, i dont consider my V8 to be sensible lol)

12 months ago, I was paying £18 a month in electric for my annual 1500Kw consumption. That same consumption will be costing me £50 a month from 1st April.
Not really. A full charge for me has gone from £9.50 at peak rates to £25 at peak rates. Or £3.50 off peak to £5.2512 months ago, I was paying £18 a month in electric for my annual 1500Kw consumption. That same consumption will be costing me £50 a month from 1st April.
At pence per mile that’s from 3.2ppm to 8ppm at peak rates, and from 1.2ppm to 1.8ppm for off peak.
So, yeah, it’s gone up, but I think I can live with that, given it’s the performance equivalent of a petrol car that’d probably cost 50ppm.

It's more than doubled since 2019ish. I use to pay 2p per mile in fuel costs for the EV after the latest price increases it'll be around 7.5p/mile. Still much cheaper than an equivalent combustion car though.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
