Either you've got the least efficient EV ever, or your electricity rates aren't very good! 400 miles would cost about £8 in either our ID3 or Born.

I wonder if some people sitting on the fence with EV might be persuaded by another reminder of how beholden we are to oil prices and the many things that influence them such as the Iran conflict scratchchin

Some perspective on fuel prices in the UK:

20 years ago petrol was ~131p a litre, adjusted for inflation.

Today it costs 149p. Factor in the overall improvement of cars' fuel efficiency over the last couple of decades, and the situation has probably remained unchanged for the average driver.

Most are probably far worse off due to the abundance of expensive coffee vending machines and hyper inflation & shrinkflation on the cost of a packet of mccoys.

Still, it’s nice when you find a cheap petrol station.

That's a good point actually. In the last 12 months, Costa have increased their price of a medium sized coffee by around 25% yikes

I can also go back and recall paying around £1.30 a litre when I first bought my Mazda 6 in late 2013, so the current £1.45-£1.50 prices in the grand scheme of things are about right when taking a longer term view... just seems expensive I guess after the COVID era drop in pump prices....

We've got used to thinking 1.40 was cheap, time to get it right back to 1.80+ to bring it down and settle at 1.50 odds to think that's cheap.

Still worth it. Stuff using an EV.
Or have an EV and an ICE car like me? fk paying £90 for 400 miles when I can pay £20 for the same distance.
I'd rather pay £200 for 400 miles than drive an EV.

Not wishing to be argumentative, but how much did your EV cost to buy?

Does anyone like me think that the price of fuel has increased over the last couple of weeks to take advantage of travel over the Easter holidays and resultant back to work this week? Or am I too cynical.

It depends what you use the car for. We dismissed the ID3 for the missus Company Car. After having one for a week on extended test drive, to do 400 miles, it's going to need 3 charges, so that £8 is only a thing if charging at home each night. She got the Golf GTE hybrid, which manages > 65mpg and comes with a fuel card.

When manufacturers can produce an EV, which costs the same as its ICEV equivalent, An EV which has the same range between fueling, as its ICEV equivalent, An EV which can be re fueled in no more than 5 minutes, and which has the same re sale prospects, as its ICEV equivalent. the public will switch to an EV in droves.
To date NO such EV exists.

Myself (for example) would need to spend £30k? £40k or more? to buy an EV that will do 400 miles on a single charge I imagine, the payback on fuel saving would be years if this is the case or are they really cheap now to buy one that will do 400miles on a charge?

Costco have also stopped being the cheapest place around for miles. The one near my work in Watford used be at least 8-10p cheaper per litre for diesel or petrol, now it's only 3p cheaper and barely worth the time me going during lunch. What's changed?

Not wishing to be argumentative, but how much did your EV cost to buy?
And how much has it depreciated?

Many people I know will pay thousands for a newer car and lost thousands on a part-exchanged car on the basis that RFL was £300 on the old car and £35 on the new car, rather than be realistic about the fact that they simply wanted a newer car!

You get that a lot but most of it comes down to the value prospect not just the hard cash.

You get perceived value form spending on a new car because you get a new car. Spending money on tax is no value to you personally.

It’s even worse for the 700 odd a year tax I’m just hoping the 2006 onwards v8’s plummet in value because of this and I can get a good one for cheap biglaugh

Ev’s are back on the normal depreciation curve it won’t be long before ice cars get back on the depreciation train too.
